Yep. That's not nail in the HD DVD coffin type of news but it's still a pretty interesting development. Surely not the news I'd want to hear if I were a HD DVD backer.

This position only cover Digital World such as VOD, Internet Download etc...

This would have been more interesting if iti was the Warner Home Video VP...

It's still one more presumably pro-Blu face at the executive level in WB... I'm sure they chat at least occaisionally.

What's interesting is in the link it says he reports to "Tsujihara" in Los Angeles.

Quote:
Gewecke reports to Tsujihara in Los Angeles.
Here is some more information about Tsujihara:

Quote:
Kevin Tsujihara

Executive Vice President, New Media, Warner Bros.

Kevin Tsujihara was named Executive Vice President, New Media, Warner Bros., in March 2000.

In this position, Tsujihara is responsible for the oversight of all of Warner Bros.' new media endeavors and initiatives, including identifying and negotiating equity investments and strategic alliances with companies whose assets could play an integral role in moving Warner Bros. forward in both the new and traditional media.
It also says that Gewecke's position is "newly created."

"Thomas Gewecke has been named president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, the video-on-demand and electronic sell-through unit of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group"

What does this mean? Anything to do with HD discs?

Okay, now THAT is ominous. Moving forward in both new and traditional media?

Fellas I think that's as close a sign as we've had about what Warner may do.

Interesting little details like these add up to paint a picture after a point.

I forget his name off the top of my head, but the first positive at Warner was then that one gentleman parted ways with them a few months back. Was that Kornblau? Whoever that HD-DVD lovin' exec. was. Good riddance to him.

Now something like this.

Hmmm...maybe there really are some positive "winds of change" happening at Warner after all.
