Daredevil season 2 is going to be on Netflix within weeks. I know nothing has been announced about Daredevil or Jessica Jones getting a physical release but given that Shield season 2 and Agent Carter were only put on Amazon, are the Netflix shows even getting released on physical format?

Netflix funds these shows to get people to subscribe to see them. They have zero motivation to push for a disc release. It might happen eventually, but they're in no rush to get it done and given how TV performs on disc I doubt anyone is eager to release it for them anyway.
It's frankly surprising that House of Cards gets disc releases so reliably. We're heading toward a world where a ton of shows (and movies even) cannot be owned and are only on subscription services. It's pretty damn scary. It's especially annoying with Daredevil and Jessica Jones because even with high level Fios internet I saw a ton of compression artifacts in the blacks. |

other netflix series have been released on blu.......i'd think it's just a matter of time before whatever agreement Marvel and Netflix has runs out and it's able to be released on home video.
i for one can't wait for a bluray release.....i absolutely loathe streaming movies/tv shows for any period of time. i pay for internet service to get online and surf or to play video games. i'm not going to pay more for internet just so Netflix doesn't buffer anymore. ![]() |

I don't mind streaming a show but I also would like to own a physical copy I can really truly own.
I have just started watching Criminal Minds (just finished Season 4 last night) and while I love the fact that I can have almost every episode at my fingertips, I also will buy the seasons on DVD so I can own the show also. |

Daredevil is apparently getting a release in Europe.
Anyway, it's possible Disney may be holding up the two series and will bundle Seasons 1 & 2 of each together. Agents of SHIELD is a 22 episodes a season series and Disney probably sees that as an easier sell. The Netflix series are 13 episode seasons and Disney probably doesn't see 13 episode sets as being as good of a sell. But on the other side, a 26 episode set would create a set similar to the Agents of SHIELD releases and ends being a lot easier to sell (remember that Disney hasn't exactly bought into the shorter season concept yet). As a result, we likely get a domestic release of Daredevil in late 2016/early 2017 and of Jessica Jones in late 2017/early 2018. Now before you can say "what about Agent Carter?", remember Agent Carter was only supposed to be a miniseries until demand led ABC to do another season. |

Excellent post!
![]() Marvel is white hot right now, if there was ever a time to release it would be now. While it's not Marvel...I would love to see Man in the High Castle released on BD! ![]() As for the 20+ "season" episode length, I just think that is an archaic way of doing business. The television landscape has changed so much in the last 20 years, I feel that anything over 10-13 episodes will cause the overall show to drag out and suffer. The networks still haven't figured that out yet, in their rush to sell ad space. Meanwhile streaming outlets, and non-network channels are booming with their short seasons. House of Cards = Sony Fourth season of Arrested Development = Fox Orange Is the New Black = Lionsgate Unstoppable Kimmy Schmidt = Universal Daredevil = Disney/Marvel Jessica Jones = Disney/Marvel Basically, who airs it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with who'd bring it to home video. It's no different than, say, Gotham airing on Fox but being released on DVD/BD by Warner. It's possible that Netflix's deal with Marvel precludes any physical home video releases, but that would definitely be out of step from Netflix's other series. |

The average netflix stream is less than 4 mbps nationwide despite what your provider is capable of.. That is less than DVD quality which is capable of 9.8mpbs.
Now Netflix recently said they were going to boost their bit rate but I wouldn't be expecting miracles. Meanwhile back to reality, the average bit rate of a bluray is 25 mbps, but of course it can go to 40+mbps. Now with 4K blurays it is going to choke the cable lines further. I have my doubts that fiber optics will be the windfall that will break bluray because there are obvious physical (weather, structure) and financial limitations. To this day, I don't understand this fascination with Netflix other than the way that convenience has taken over for quality. Why watch a great film on a smart phone instead of taking the time to immerse yourself in the highest quality possible? I would rather watch a hundred other great films over this Netflix exclusive bologna. I refuse to support the "stream only" situation, and if that means I miss out on some quality programming...GOOD, because I would much rather put my time and money to a classic release that will deliver far greater quality and is a finished story as opposed to a WIP mentality for a TV series that seems to be oh so much more prominent today. Gone are the days where we would get a finished episode. Now we get this low budget (compared to movies), on low quality feeds, with no chance for a peer reviewed quality that will stay in a solid state. Thus ends my sermon. Carry on, I hope Dare Devil gets a physical release. Perhaps Netflix will be like AMC one day and will get some material that they can use for barter as opposed to mostly relying on licenses to be granted. While there have been some popular shows like Orange is the New Black, or the Marvel stuff, or maybe some original cash in's like Pee Wee, or Beasts of No Nation, I still ain't biting till they get something I can BUY, and not RENT. I don't appreciate their motto and it has dumbed down the world to the point of destroying quality and forever putting the power into the hands of the distributor. Brave new world I guess. I have never ever seen a way to hack my disc. Good luck with that. And even if the power goes out...I can still run my player with the generator. ![]() |

It's not unreasonable for people to want and assume Daredevil and Jessica Jones will receive physical releases. Right now, it seems Disney is holding up releases, rather than Netflix, unless there is a certain length Marvel must wait before doing a physical release. |

I doubt that their deal prevents a physical release from ever happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a long exclusivity contract. With their handling of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter on Blu-ray and DVD it is obvious that Disney doesn't care much about Marvel shows on disc.
