I've seen countless threads, discussions, lists, and I am wondering, do you buy a movie just because it's Blu-Ray? I mean, I can understand building up a collection, and I am sure that there are plenty of people on here with regular DVD collections well into the thousands (like myself) but I see that there are alot of people buying DVDs up by the handful for 25-30 bucks a pop, and a lot of them are just, in my opinion, downright shitty titles. I mean who would honestly pay for Chain Reaction or the Omen remake on DVD, let alone on Blu-Ray?
I can understand that my opinion is just that, an opinion, and I can also understand many people buy Blu-Ray discs to support their favorite format. But I see plenty of Blu DVDs that I wouldn't want even if given to me, as I have zero interest in seeing them. You'd have to strap me down and prop my eyes open A Clockwork Orange style to get me to sit through Hairspray or The Marine. |

+1. I will not double-dip on some titles. Of my 200 DVDs, 50 are out on Blu, and out of those, I have only doubled up on 15, and maybe 5 more if they come out.
But I wll not buy a movie I don't like or am not interested in seeing simply because it is on Blu, why - there's no budget for that, I got to eat too, you know, ![]() |

I refuse to buy the first 2 HP movies. I think I am happy with the DVDs of these, and don't want to spend more money on them, even with the BOGO.
There are plenty of movies that do not need to be in BD. I personally think that DVD and BD can co-exist for years. Gradually people will start choosing BD over DVD, but until then, the option for either is open to them and they can choose to buy the DVD if they don't want to spend the extra money for the BD. |

Absolutely not.
I have maybe 10 must have movies that I like to own and as of today, I don't have any of them on blu. BOGO's and Buy 2 get 1 Free and all the other assorted discounts are not doing me any good when the movies they are spilling are not what I want. My wife and child have their blu HP 1-5 collector set in hand but I'm still holding out for "my must have movies" and of course, the old Disney classics for the little one (the new ones IMO suck, i.e. Cars, Rat.., etc.). First....I still get sick to my stomach that people buy hairspray. Now, all jokes aside, I will be that person that says....maybe I'll buy some movies I wouldn't have previously considered buying, just because they are on Blu. I never would have purchased the Simpsons movie on DVD for example. I didnt own the Harry Potter set prior to their recent Blu-ray release. So yeah, a movie coming out on Blu basically means that I need it

I agree. I just shake my head when I see some of these "collections". 200 titles, and 150 are garbage. I'd be embarassed to actually admit to owning half the titles some people purchase here. Are we movie lovers, or instruments of corporate agenda and unrestricted spending? I think blu-ray is the superior format, but it does not mean I will run out and purchase crap like Norbit, Condemned, Little Man, I Know Who Killed Me, Ultraviolet etc. I would need to wash myself off if I purchased those titles because I would feel so dirty.

I think it is fine to buy DVDs for titles you don't think will benefit enough from HD. Sure it will look better, but is it work the extra dough to see it that way? Sometimes it is not. Eventually the price of BDs will match DVDs (at least by today's standards) so ppl will be likely to buy BDs instead. But I see both of these lasting in the market for a long time together. Many will not want to go HD, many will want to use their old players. |
