I have the standard edition DVD, and it looks good on my 32". But I don't think it will look that great in HD, especially the night-time scenes that carry noticeable video noise. The reviewers of the HD-DVD says that it's presented in the best way it can be in High Definition, so can I really expect the BD release--if released--to be miles ahead of the HD-DVD transfer? And would it be worth upgrading?

I am sure that since Mann is a big blu supporter, he would make that this release is redone for blu ray.

As for Vice, if it's ever released on BD, I don't think the PQ will be mindblowing. Last edited by DeeChizzle; 02-01-2008 at 06:03 AM. |

I forgot all about Manhunter. It was produced in 1986 by De Laurentiis Entertainment Group (DEG). The DVD was released in U.S. by MGM/UA.

Collateral was one of the first major movies shot mostly on HD digital video. Honestly the result was kind of a mixed bag. It allowed some shots in the dark that would have probably been a grainy mess on most 35mm film, but there was also some new visual problems with it that made it look kind of wierd.
Those expecting it to look like newer HD video movies might be disappointed. |

I wouldn't mind seeing Miami Vice and Collateral on BD.
Especially Collateral! |

I have the SD and HD versions of Miami Vice.
Here are some pics for comparison: MV_PICS.zip 5.39MB Both DVDs were ripped to hard drive: the SD was frameserved into TMPGEnc using DVD2AVI and cropped to remove black bars before each frame output to BMP. The HD was scripted into VirtualDub using avisynth, cropped to remove black bars and then encoded to avi with Lagarith lossless codec and then fed into TMPGEnc to obtain the BMPs. |

I can rip more pics at request (bearing in mind that each uncompressed bmp is 4MB).
