I do not know much about this other than the fact that the PS3 40 GB doesn't have it. I have heard that the 60 GB has it via a chip and the 80 GB has it via software emulation only. If it is truely software why cant we have it on the 40 GB? Is there a place where we can download that emulator? Is there someway we can hack the PS3 so we can play PS2 games? I dont want to hear just buy the 80 GB as I dont want to so if that is all you have to contribute then please spare us all and dont. Any help?

I cant stand when Sony leaves some SOFTWARE off a machine that doesn't cost them a thing just because they want people to start playing PS3 games. If I want to play PS2 games then I should be able to. It is absolutely retarded that the machine can play PS1 and PS3 games but not PS2. Absolutely retarded. I dont need sony telling me what I can and cannot do.

Me neither THe basics are that the 60gig has the full hardware (emotion engine and graphics chip) required to play PS2 games , the 80 does not have the emotion engine chip but does have the graphics chip, and the 40 has neither. SO YES, IF YOU WANT TO PLAY PS2 GAMES EITHER BUY A PS2 or buy a 60/80 |

80GB via hardware(1 chip)/software emulation for the other chip 40GB would only be possible if they were to also emulate the 1 chip left in the 80gb. So far they have said that is not in their plans since there are alternatives to play PS2 games (60, 80, PS2 itself) and if you would like that then to purchase the alternatives. The 40GB was at a lower price because they removed some of the hardware to reduce costs etc. |

Well i suppose you could try installing linux on the PS3 and then installing a ps2 emulator and see if it works - i don't know if any one has tried that but you never know -
Anyone with a ps3 and linux installed on it want to try this and see what happens - i'd love to know if it does work - and i'm sure a lot of other people would like to know too |

I play my ps2 games on my ps2. I got a day one ps2 and it is still working, btw. I would rather not waste my ps3 time on those old ones. Backwards compatibility has always been overrated. I played a ps1 game on my ps2 once, maybe twice. Just my two cents.

You're the one that didnt do your homework you crybaby.
They took out hardware to save on costs. They also are not going to emulate every single PS2 game entirely because there are thousands. Therefore its not worth their time to even bother at all. IF you wanted the extra feature, you need to pay for it. I dont feel the slightest bit of sympathy for you and you're "i want everything my way!" type attitude. |
