Default Returns w/ no receipt

hey, does anyone work at BB or CC here that can answer a question for me?

can you return an items that are brand new and sealed without a receipt for a store credit? i won a tv at my christmas party on saturday and i dont need one unfortunely. so i wanted to return it to CC to buy a BD player and maybe a receiver. i know sams club and CC stock this tv. i dont think i can get the receipt as the owner and VP went out and shopped for the items they gave out and going up to the office and asking for a receipt so i can return it is something i dont want to do. i dont think they will appreciate that.

as long as they stock the same tv/model in the store, i dont see it being a problem.

just tell them your girlfriend bought it for you but its not what you wanted...

and it will probably just be store credit...gift card...

well i checked on CC website and it states that all returns must have a receipt. so if i dont have a receipt i dont think they will even give me a store credit. i was not looking for a cash refund, i know they wont do that. just a store credit. i guess i will have to call or go down and talk to them.

I tried to return DVD's and Video Games to BB and CC that were unopened and without receipt. They both refused the return for credit especially if the item was not purchased from their store. They scanned the item and could tell if it was not from their inventory. The receipt is the only thing that guarantees it was purchased from their store. Just letting you know my experiences.

Same experience here.

I received a PS3 game as a gift and already had it.....BB flat refused to take it even though they sold it and it was still shrink-wrapped.

Target refused it also, so I went to EB Games and they took it no problem and I exchanged it for another brand new title.

well it sounds like i either have to return it to sams club or try and sell it. that kinda sucks since sams club does not have alot of quality electronics there, no receivers and only one BD player choice which is sony s301.

i wonder if i go down to CC and make a stink about returning it if they will give in? i mean i am returning a tv that they sell that is brand new and sealed. i am also not asking for a cash refund, but a store credit to still buy other items in their store. what do you think? any managers here to chime in about this?

I dont think you will be able to do it at Circuit City. They are able to scan the item and reprint the receipt or if it was paid with a credit card they can swipe the card and find the receipt.

I tried yesterday to return two unopened and sealed blu-rays (I had duplicates) and they would not accept them without a receipt. They told me that you are limited to one return without a receipt per year based on the your ID info. They can look up the purchase in their database if you don't have a receipt, but if they can't find it, you're limited to one return per year. No worries though...took 'em over to wal-mart and they took them no problem. Ended up getting Simpsons BD with Target PM for $29.99.

so you say your allowed on return per year without a reciept?? i have never made a return to CC before, so do you think they will do it this one time? i am not going to count on it though as it is a $999 t.v., they may think twice about that amount. well i guess it does not hurt to ask.

Some stores are more lenient about this after Christmas. If the item is unopened they usually will accept the return(if they happen to sell the item). Of course know your store. Some stores use different inventory tracking systems that do not go off the UPC and hence will know if it's one of theirs. I have no idea how you're going to return a tv without a receipt though. A $1000 tv is a lot different than a $20 dvd or cd. You might want to look into selling it on something like Craig's List.

ya i thought about craigs list already. but what does a legitament person do when they do receive a gift from someone with no receipt? i mean it has got to happen. i know they have ways to tracking things, but if the store carries it and sells it, than why not take it back and give a store credit?

Why should they if they weren't ones to sell that television to the person who gave you as a gift? Unless you know they got it from Circuit City...

Oh. You sure those are the only two stores?

If you know the guy's number who gave you the gift, you might wanna try using his number at CC to look up the receipt....
