Default Best place for exchanges w/o receipt?

I just received a Blu-ray player as an early Christmas present and have some unopened DVD's that I purchased recently that I would like to return for the Blu-ray version. The problem is that I no longer have the receipts. Where have you had the best luck returning items w/o a receipt for either a comparable one or for store credit?

We received Planet Earth last year from my uncle but it was the Blu-ray version. We had a nightmare trying to enchange it for the DVD version w/o a receipt at places like Target. We even told them we would eat the difference since the Blu-ray version was more expensive but they said they couldn't do it.

Really, you had a hard time at Target?!?!? The target near me doesnt need the receipt. As you can see, I would have said Target but that wouldnt have worked out. I hope you can find a place.

Best buy you can get away with a couple times a year. They track it by drivers license though. BTW, the target near me is a PITA too.

best buy will usually do it w/o a receipt if u say it was a gift. you'll need your license. you can only do it so many times before they flag you though, i've had that happen.

I've heard that Wal-Mart is a good place to go without a receipt.

Best Buy is pretty good with this, up until early January. I've only done stuff like this once, so if anything happens, I'll be set. Although I doubt I'm getting any BR discs.

I read somewhere that you can exchange up to 6 times a year with no receipt. I know I've gotten a few gifts before and they didn't include the receipt but Wal-mart exchanged them with no problems.

I've returned items at Walmart for giftcards. The CSR there will login your ID and allow it up to three times in a year. BB and Targets will generally vary, but during the Holidays they tend to be a bit more lax.

I got Prince Caspian 2-Disc as a gift, I wanted the 3-disc so I went to Best Buy and said it was a gift and got the 3-disc and paid the difference. No problems with them either.

I hear walmart will take back nearly anything
Target - Bad
Best Buy - pretty good. They didn't ask for my license either, i couldn't give one since i dont have mine yet
maybe circuit city? or Sears?

Without a receipt, you can only get an equal exchange, even if they are sealed. Although, some stores, like Wal-Mart, may be willing to do that for you. Can't go to a Best Buy because they actually know what they have in stock.

Target is the worst!! My wife and I were registered for our wedding there. Well we ended up getting 2 Kitchen-aid blenders ($100 each!). So I figured we could return one easily without a reciept since it was an item on our gift registery, right?
Wrong. Argued for 2 mins, asked for the manager, argued another 5 mins. Pulled out our gift registery paper, showed the manager it was the exact same model they have on their shelves right now... bla, blah, on and on.
All I wanted was store credit! Just a-holes.

My local Targets changed their policy about a year ago. They wanted a receipt for everything over $20 or so or else they wouldn't exchange. They wouldn't even exchange something on a gift registry unless we had the receipt.

I don't blame them. It stops what is going on in this thread. Items being exchanged/returned to their stores when they were not purchased there to begin with.

If an item is purchased at a store as a gift (wedding, birthday, christmas), you can get a gift receipt. You should ALWAYS get a gift receipt for instances such as this or just common courtesy.

I am happy Target does that. Otherwise it would quickly turn into a wal-crap.
