USA Price Tracking

I'm not a newbie, but the last couple of months I've noticed that while you can still set price tracking on the titles you are interested in you can't check and see the graph that used to show the price history of the titles. Did I miss something, I really liked that feature. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks for the info, it had been bugging me for a while. Major bummer, it was a feature that came in handy quite a bit.

Now that a few months have past since it has been gone, in all honesty it's removal hasn't affected me one bit. As before I set the highest price that I am prepared to pay, and get email alerts when it reaches that price or drops even lower.

I miss the price history tracker immensely. I checked it before almost every bluray purchase. I know we still have camel camel camel, but I really miss the ease/format of having it on this site.

I'm the exact opposite. I didn't think it was a big deal at first, but I could've really used it during Black Friday. Instead, I only bought 1 movie the whole week and it was from Walmart. I know losing my business isn't going to hurt Amazon, but selfishly, I'd love to see the tracker again someday.

How did not having a graph make a single bit of difference to how many titles you purchased during the BF sales? As I previously stated, all you simply had to do was set your target price for the titles that you were interested in, and wait for the email alerts. Does not knowing what the price was 6 months ago or during previous BF sales make it more difficult for you to make a decision?

I know your question isn't directed to me, but I'll throw in my 2 cents... it does make it easier for me to make a decision when I know price history. If I know it's a good deal (lower price than usual or lowest ever), I'm more likely to purchase vs. wait. Plus, it's nice to know the price history before setting a target price. If a title rarely/never goes on sale, I won't set my target price at 50% off and hope for an alert. If a title goes on sale every other month, I can set my target at that price and reasonably expect to hit it.

I visit this site regularly (with owning 1500 Blu-ray's I would think you would to), therefore I'm always aware of the average price, lowest price to date and if it's a good deal for the titles that I am interested in. After I have decided to purchase them I am no longer interested in following their price, however if there is a significant price drop compared to what I paid, it does grab my attention and I do remember the price when this happens.

How many titles are you interested in at a given time? A few dozen?

When you're interested in a few hundred, it's just not possible to keep all that info in your head. And if you discover an older title that you'd like to now check out, there is no longer a price history on this site to use as reference so you can get caught up on the average and lowest prices over the years.

Yes it is, Blu-ray's are important too me and are a big part of my life, for me it is very easy to keep the info in my head. I'm not some old fella with a bad memory. I don't have distractions such as children in my life, so it's not hard to keep up on these things. I have 162 on my tracking list at the moment, I deleted about 60 or so recently. Many of them have been on my list for years, I just haven't made my mind up if I want to own most of what's left on my list. Some on my list I have already bought, but arrived damaged in some way and never requested a replacement, so I'm waiting until they drop to a very low price to purchase them again (all of which have been available at my target prices before). I don't add many new things to my tracking list, and everything I do add now has been released after the removal of the tracking graph. I don't add everything that I'm interested in straight away either, I just keep a close eye on some of them, I don't miss anything. As far as catalogue titles go, I'm not interested in discovering new things, my list of wants has been established for a long time.

I think I'd probably have to be a savant for that to be true for me.

I couldn't keep up if I had that many. I've never had that much on my price tracking list, I buy so many that what I want reduces quickly. Much of what I have bought from Amazon is often cheap, $7-$10 or lower, so for many titles I have wanted I have never had to put them on my tracking list. The most I've had on it is just over 250, and at that stage I thought it was a chore to scroll through the list. If I had 825 on my list I'd give up I think. My collection has cost me a lot of money, however if I consistently saw that many titles on my tracking list it would remind me of the financial commitment needed to purchase them all, making what I want feel much more out of reach, as well as how far I am from where I want my collection to be.

Question

Newbie question here but what does the price range do? I get that it is added on to your 'ideal price' but I don't get why the price range is a separate value.

Man I HATE losing the history feature in the tracker. It really jacks my decision making. Sure I have some stuff set but even that stuff, for example, I might notice has for a period of time been consistently close to the new all time low and set it even more.

I am venturing an educated guess that I am in a substantial minority of folks who keep a eagle eye on long term price history and are very committed and patiently wait many months and sometimes even years for items to hit their price point and are thustly very affected by the loss of the price history feature.

I just don't know what to do about ordering stuff because my strategy isn't just set the desired price and order; a lot of times I wait beyond that point either because of financial constraints or by design. Purposefully I like to see how something trends even after it's hit my set price tracker point. Sometimes it bites me in the ass but often times it goes even lower without having to wait much longer and that allows me to constantly repreprioritize my want list as new titles become available and that's incredibly valuable to me.

I think that's more common than you'd expect. I wish this site would resolve the Amazon price tracking issues especially since one of it's price tracking competitors seems to have no issues with providing that capability.

Not sure if this is helpful to any of you or not, or more likely you guys already know, but you can put whatever titles you want into your Amazon cart, then save them for later. Every day or so just click on your cart (even empty) and it will tell you when titles have increased/decreased in price.

It isn't really a history per say, but can be helpful. For example, if you have been waiting on a big ticket item, such as a large box set that normally runs $130, then one day it drops to $70, your cart would give you a message saying it has dropped in price and by how much.
