Default Lose ends

I thought that I would make a list of all the lose ends that Nintendo needs to tie up prior to launching the Nintendo Wii

1) When the Nintendo Wii will launch
2) How much will the console cost?
3) If Nintendo will release more then one version of the console, like one package where you would get just the console by itself and maybe another package where you'll get the console and maybe the virtual console controller and the light gun shell.
4) What the virtual console interface will look like?
5) What the SD memory cards will look like?
6) If the Nintendo Wii remote will use ordinary batteries or a rechareable battery pack?
7) There was an article that talked about 4KB of memory with the Wii remote. It was unknown what this memory is for, my guess would be the option to store different controller configurations for different games.
8) What the story is about Nintendo mass producing the Wii because I haven't read anything about it, but I would think that Wii would be on track.
9) What Nintendo will do to reduce piracy with their games since both Microsoft and Nintendo use regular discs and not blu-ray discs.

There may be other lose ends as well, but I have listed most of the major ones. There is a Nintendo Fusion Tour coming up in a few weeks. Feel free to post opnions about some of these.

Why are you asking the price if you already know?

Maybe it's one of those "If you keep telling yourself that, maybe it'll come true" situations.

The reason I'm asking is that the "less then $250.00" means that we will pay $250.00 or less. It doesn't mean that we will pay $250.00 exactly. We may pay something like $140.00 or maybe $190.00. The point is that Nintendo wants to keep the Wii cheap and affordable, but at the same time, they don't want to break their bank or our paychecks.

Well it's my understanding that all of the recent game consoles sold for full MSPR no matter where you bought them.

What does MSPR stand for? I have to say that Nintendo has a bad habbit of keeping things from us. There is nothing wrong with this, they just don't rattle off everything at one time. THere is the fusion tour coming up in a few weeks and the Tokyto Game Show so we should know everything by the end of September. Sony and Nintendo are in the same boat with both of them not showing their network interface and the virtual console interface.

I'm not really into games or anything, but one of the guys that I work with told me last week that the price was officially announced as $229. Don't quote me on that, as I don't know where he got the information, but you might want to dig around at your favorite video game sites.

Edit: I looked around myself quickly and found this. It's still a rumor, but IGN is somewhat of a credible source.

Regardless of anything else:

As a gamer, it's like: Why NOT buy a Wii, especially at this rate?

Well $230.00 is less then $250.00. I bet the release date is sometime in October. If the release date is in October, Nintendo will have to start mass production and preorders at least by September if not start mass production in Augest and preorders in September.

What's to say they haven't started production already?

Production would have to begin now to meet an October launch. I think that the Wii will launch in October. If that is true, then Nintendo will launch next and Sony will be last.

Production has begun on the Wii, from what I've heard. In fact, it could probably be released today, but they're optimizing the software.

No production problems with the Wii? We'll know the launch date and price by September, maybe the first according to Iwata, nintendo president. I read that at the time of E3 of this year, the Wii console was in near final form. I haven't seen any pictures of it lately, but I was wondering if there would be any more tweaks to the console. I'm wondering if Nintendo will do two kinds of Wii packages like Sony and Microsoft are doing. What will the USB ports on the back be used for?

If I recall correctly, they said the USB ports could be used to add external storage space.

Because, I already have Gamecube Graphics & sound on my...Oh Yeah...

GAMECUBE~!

Sorry, maybe i'm just peeved that Nintendo IMO is missing out on yet ANOTHER chance to take out the competition.

I used to be such a Ninetendo *****-bag, and they've let down over & over since SNES IMO. Nintendo lost touch with the people that made them rich, (guys like me who played their original NES/SNES games as a youth) Sony & M$ are now catering to us, and Nintendo feels they are locked in somehow to that 7-13 y.o. age bracket. I guess if they didn't make games like "the olson twins" & "power ranger mania GBA" who would?

I'll be taking the $250 + Games I woulda spent on a Wii-Eak...and buy an HDDVD add on for the 360 or some games for the "real" next gen systems.

You know, Brian, you're so mad about the lack of HD graphics that you're missing Nintendo's entire philosophy about this generation. There are very, very few people I've spoken to who aren't anywhere from interested to VERY interested in the Wii. I work at a video game store and I get at least as many people asking about Wii preorders as I do about PS3 preorders. The Wii really has a chance at selling the most systems this generation.

A strong point to make about the wii is that Nintendo is trying to expand the gaming population. Both Sony and Microsoft share the same thing, they improve their machines in terms of visuals. There is nothing wrong with that, but we have to think about nongamers. Not everyone plays video games and it's not because they don't want to spend the money, but because their is no easy way to approach playing a video game. The Wii remote solves this problem because everyone has held a remote in their hands before and with some games like the Wii sports, anyone reguardless of experience can play right away. The DS expanded the gaming population with brain age because the only thing you need to know about playing brain age is how to write. Everyone knows how to write. The point being is that the Wii remote allows nongamers to play video games because of simple hand and arm movements. I can say that some people freak out with a dual shock 2 because there are too many buttons to press, not to mention that for certain games like mortal kombat, you have to memorize the controller layout. With the Wii remote, it makes game playing not only more fun, but more realistic and in some ways, better than using a standard gamepad.
