Default Tying up lose ends on the ps3

On ps3land.com, there is an article that talks about Sony making two annoucements for the ps3. I think that one of them will be about the online network for the ps3, but I don't know what the other annoucement will be about. Something we don't already know about the ps3. The annoucements will be made at the Tokoyto Game Show this September. Any guesses on the annoucements?

I think the other announcement may have to do with the mystery device for transfering ps1 or ps2 memory cards to the hard drive.

A suprise announcement that the $499 PS3 will indeed include an HDMI port.

Or maybe a suprise announcement stating that price will be $399 and $499 for the lower and high end respectively. Ok, I'm dreaming on this one.

We won't know until later, but with all the crisitism that Sony has received from Sony haters, maybe they will lower prices on the console packages. We'll have to wait and see.

I doubt the decision makers at Sony ever visit any forums!

If you never visited a forum, so never saw some of the pros and cons that get debated about different bits of kit, would it matter? Not one bit. I'd still probably go for the PS3 over a 360.

The main reason for visiting a forum is for snippets of news that I may have missed elsewhere or to answer a question. The trouble is you end up expecting new information every time you visit, and that just doesn't happen.

The only loose ends left for PS3, for me, are:

Blu-ray and DVD playback abilities/quality
PSP connectivity
Media storage options (my own photos, music, etc)
How much the accessories will cost (2nd controller, etc)

We should know pretty soon. Only 14 weeks till the UK launch! WOW!

Also a PS3 obsessive, OK, yet to come...

Final, final confirmation there's no rumble in the pad.
List of launch titles for the PS3 version of xbox live arcade
The startup sequence/noise. Gonna hear that noise thousands of times... What's the new one?
PSP has downloadable PS1 games, same for PS3?

Here's what I know about some of the lose ends. There's no rumble in the pad, would interfer with the senors built right in. It's possible that in the future, you would attach the controller to some kind of third party rumble attachment. I never play with the rumble so I won't miss it. I don't know anything about the online network, but I would almost bet money that we'll see it at the Tokoyto Game Show. I think that the ps3 will be very quiet, but maybe not. "PSP has downloadable PS1 games, same for PS3?" What do you mean by this? Unless you mean that we could download ps1 games onto the ps3, that would come off the network. "Blu-ray and DVD playback abilities/quality" I would assume that both formats would work just as good as on the real thing. The psp would connect to the ps3 by means of a networking switch I would think. It's possible that the memory stick pro duo would also be used somehow since something could be downloaded to the stick. The ps3 will support compact flash cards from digital cameras and music CD's. I would think that a second controller would cost about the same as what we pay now.

I don't buy the no Rumble/Motion Sensing at the same time thing being a technical issue, I think it's all to do with Sony's legal problems.

Yeah, PS1 games downloadable on PS3. You can download them on PSP, onto a memory stick(Riiiiiiige Racer), why not take that memory stick, pop it into a PS3, play them on PS3....!

Mostly I'm obsessed with what the new startup sound will be.

Sony knows the dual shock controller. Maybe the reason that they couldn't include the rumble is because of the way that the controller is designed. They claim that the rumble would interfer with the sensors. I'm guessing that ps1 games will be downloaded onto the memory stick and then the game would boot up from the memory stick.

I read somewhere that Sony was having legal/licensing issues with the company that designed its Dual Shock system and that's why it was not including the system in the new controllers.

Immersion is the company Sony have the "problem" with, sadly Immersion have made a rumble pad that also has tilt sensors. So basically Immersion are saying that it is possible to have tilt sensitive pad with rumble.

I have to agree that the decision has more to do with the lawsuit than rumble not being possible.

Still, I am playing with wireless pads now and there is no rumble in them and in all honesty I haven't noticed the difference! I think rumble is overstated; people say they can't do without it, but frankly if it isn't there, you won't notice it.

I totally agree with what you're saying. I don't even play with rumble on so I won't miss it one bit. I care more about the fact that the controller is wireless and I think the tilt function makes up for a lack of rumble because you can choose what you want to do with it.

I've got everything round my house and I play Gamecube with Wavebird and yeah... No rumble isn't the end of the world.

There's a handful of games you'd miss it badly on though, Rez is one of them.
