This is not another thread for people to complain about how much they hate them. But I thought of this today because of how frequently people do complain about the discs they find "useless" (such as DVDs and Digital Copies), while there are others who appreciate having the extra versions for different occasions. I'm sure everyone knows how to find the percentage. You just take the number of Combo Packs and divide that number by the total BDs in your collection.
By Combo Pack, I'm referring to either BDs that come with just a DVD, just a Digital Copy, or both. Mine is 32% (143/451) So, what's yours? Last edited by Mandalorian; 08-16-2012 at 07:06 PM. |

Sitting at 7.6% and do not buy them as the standard BD only pack if available is generally cheaper. However, recently our LCD TV died and we were unable to watch any Blu's or TV for about 2 weeks. I was glad to have those DVD's as a backup to watch on my laptop while waiting for the new TV to arrive.

No clue what the percentage is but I never use the DVDs so it might as well be zero. If there are options, I avoid them. Unfortunately, when there are multiple versions of a release, it tends to be the combo pack that has the special features disc as well.

I would say the majority of it. Since most of my stuff is from Buena Vista or Fox, and they usually have a DVD or DC, that covers the bases. Some though like early Sony titles or Universal were disc only so that makes up the gap.

Well, I went to "Search Your Collection" and clicked on DVD in the "Discs Included" section. It came back with 81 returns. Which is pretty much 20%.
Actually, I thought it would be higher, since I do a lot of current blind-buys. But then again, I have a number of Criterions, for instance, which don't come in Combos. |

198/ 490 have a DVD so 41%
213/490 have a digital copy so 43% Kind of surprising I thought it would be higher considering how much less I value a set if it doesn't come with a digital copy or to a lesser degree a dvd. I will buy a movie without a digital copy but I expect it to be under the 3 to 5 dollar range (no dvd also lowers its value by a couple of bucks for me as believe it or not no dvd seriously hurts the resale value). |

Ideally 0 %, of the blu-ray releases I own with a standard combo case I took out the holder and DVD and sold the majority of DVDs. I'm only interested in collecting blu-rays and the idea of owning DVDs that sit in my collection never to be played, feels absurd. Also, the money I got from selling those went right back into buying blu-rays.
The only 'combo' editions I have left intact are a handful of special edition sets that would devalue without the DVDs as well as sets with exclusive content on the DVDs; Arrows Dawn of the Dead set with the alternate cuts only on DVD and for instance Misery that has the bonus features on the DVD. So currently I would guestimate 2 % of my collection, originally it was closer to 10 %. P.S. I didn't count digital copies as I have zero interest in claiming them, it's usually too much of a hassle with regional restrictions. |
