Default 'Count Of Monte Cristo' Movie In The Works..

Quote:
The Count of Monte Cristo will be coming back to theatres courtesy of Warner Bros. and Safehouse Pictures.

The new take on the classic story comes courtesy of Director William Eubank (The Signal) and Writer Joe Pokaski (Underground, Daredevil, Heroes). The project will be produced by Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold, but no release dates or castings have been announced as of yet.

The Count of Monte Cristo was originally written by Alexandre Dumas, author of the equally iconic The Three Musketeers. Count of Monte Cristo revolves around a sailor named Edmond Dantes, who is wrongly imprisoned. After getting released he amasses a significant fortune and seeks to take revenge on the people responsible for his 13-year imprisonment.

Nice. Excellent story, should be equally palatable set in contemporary times.

What an odd way to phrase it, LOL
"Contemporary (Count Of Monte Cristo) Movie In The Works.."
Like without the parenthetical side note, it's just "Contemporary Movie In The Works.."

Contemporary?

"So this guy who claims to be the Count of Monte Cristo, I did a reverse image search of him on Google and it's totally Bob!"

I never picked this up on blu-ray due to the shoddy PQ scores it received. Just kept my DVD. If they ever released a improved version I'd be all over it. I really enjoyed the film.

Im pretty much opened for all or most remakes and dont complain like others, but this film doesnt need to be touched! The 2002 version is almost perfect and a top 10-20 film of all time in my book. Got Em!!

It doesn't feel like a remake, though, as there's so many different versions esp if you include things like Oldboy (and it's remake).

Anything based on a literary classic that's part of public domain can be made over and over again. No one complains that Ethan Hawke, Mel Gibson and Kenneth Branagh have no right to make Hamlet.

They should've kept the the original title instead of Contemporary. Which reminds me, I need to watch the Kevin Reynolds version, heard it was good.

As for William Eubank: I haven't seen The Signal yet (it's on my to-do list), but I really liked what he achieved with a shoestring budget for Love (2011), so I'll be very interested to see what he does with a modern take on the Count. Could be really good...
The 2000 one is a great re-telling of the story. Yes, it is not true to the book at all, but it is a great re-telling with the core content.

Sure, the Blu-Ray isn't the best, but I own it and I am happy with it.

Ah, this I was wondering about. I like the 2002 movie a lot, but haven't read the book or seen any other movie version.

I think the only problem I had with the movie was no one recognizing Dantes. I'm guessing this kind of things goes over better in a book. And I can't remember what span of time Dantes was in prison. I suppose with actual aging over a long period of time, he'd likely look a lot different than Jim Caviezel with facial hair in the movie.

That aside, I loved that movie and pretty much everything else, but have wondered how different the book was.
