Default Studios need to get together if they want Blu-ray to succeed.

If All studios start releasing their new movies in Bluray two weeks ahead of DVD. I think they will get poeple's attention. DVD is already an established format. Poeple will buy the movies anyway they it's realesed.
Just my 2 cents.

an idea that has been tossed around here. however, remember marketing depts would then have to create two whole sets of ads and the like to promote movies. this would seriously cut into a films marketing budget. also, this is why the BDA exists, all the studios can get together and come up with ideas.

if all studios just released on BD only, with $299 player prices and marketing, BD would be inching its way into homes across america.

If people think theyre investing in a healthy HD home theater viewing experience folks will buy. End of story. People love spending money, people love technology, people love HD......people dont love asting money, people dont love headaches and people dont love being confused.....thus HDM is not conducive to average consumers.

Its all there if we have one format, its all there.

Default Warner Bros Half Hearted Stab at Hi Def

After witnessing Harry Potter week and seeing it under perform on both format's I've concluded one of the biggest assets of WB going Blu-ray exclusively is that it can market that format which everyone else. They also will not have as many packaging issues and confusion at retail stores.

I think a good reason for the lower sales is that Blu-ray formats sold out in many places. For instance I went to Best Buy on Sunday and they were out of Harry Potter box set on Blu-ray. The entire cardboard cutout for Harry Potter was also confusing.

Warner if you are reading this, look what POC did on Blu-ray, Harry Potter would have done the same if you had marketed it the way Disney did. Oh well we look forward to good things in the new year

+1 I'd be ALOT more likely to buy Warner's releases if they all featured AVC video and uncompressed audio. Yet I'm buying them anyways, in the hope that they will go Blu exclusive next year.

Another idea would have been to realse a title a month, but making the box set available the first month. That way if you wanted Potter 1-4 you had to buy the box set.

I'd say it's a good thing they did release individuals; that's how the store I went to was able to correct my defective 4th disc.

I wonder if the blunder is what hurt the sales of Harry Potter; it'll probly move a few copies afterwards.

lol yeah, I can imagine all the studios just giving up on 95%+ of their business and income to give BD a boost.

If studios do that, they piss off their customers and the retailers.

HD sells itself. Once the format war is over and player prices drop to more entry level costs, I think even people with SD-TV's will start buying in HD to 'future-proof' for when they get a new TV. For now, they can't deny the fact that the vast majority of their market is comprised of SD-DVD purchasers. They don't want to alienate themselves from the majority of their customers to cater to a minority.

Quite, retailers wouldn't be happy because they'd be charged with educating the consumer base "ARE YOU SURE YOU REALIZE THAT THIS DISC ONLY PLAYS IN SPECIAL PLAYERS?" or "Another return from someone who thought it was just a dvd".

Bad bad juju.

OBVIOUSLY WB will not stay neutral. LOOK at their latest 2 shipments. Both have MAJOR problems with their Blu-ray releases!! They can not concentrate on 2 HD formats and the DVD format... its too much for them. They need to just drop HD DVD and only make Blu-ray and then we would have none of this BS anymore!

When DVD first came on to the horizon, a few titles made their debut on the format prior to VHS release. I think it would be a terrific strategy to go with Blu-ray a month or two prior to the DVD release.

If BD can be available at competitive BOGO price levels, that will be all that is needed. The rest will take care of itself.
