That's kind of a confusing subject line; the "Hitchcock 9" usually refers to the 9 silent films that BFI restored a few years back, which would include "The Lodger" and "Downhill" (released on a 2-fer by Criterion) and "Easy Virtue" (incomplete enough that it seems like nobody wants to release it except a French release which might not have that newer restoration) and "The Pleasure Garden", but not "Rich and Strange" or "Murder" or "The Skin Game" or "Number Seventeen".

That said, I'm really glad for these releases, even if we'll never get a true "Hitchcock 9" box set.

I agree, can someone change the subject line? "Hitchcock 9" is the name under which those restored silent films are commonly marketed. It would be better to say "9 Hitchcock titles" or something, and not have Hitchcock 9 in all caps.

Thanks so much for posting the news though!!!

I'm hoping the last three titles are getting standalone releases because they have special extras.

Ideally, Blackmail would include both the silent and sound versions, and Murder! would include Mary, the German version. I can't figure out what Number 17 might include though to make it worthy of a standalone, very curious.

Maybe we could get commentaries on most of them? Hitchcock scholars and the like...

While this is crazy good, and surprising news. Is anyone else's head blown right now that both Hideo Nakata's Ring, and Hitchcock's Ring film were both announced on the same day? What are the odds of that?!

There's actually ten Hitchcock films with StudioCanal - Juno and the Paycock isn't among the titles, though it seems that even the sole "legal" release in Europe is pretty bad quality.

This is fantastic news. Blackmail is obviously the jewel of the batch, but the rest of the silents are a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to finally having these in proper quality since I refuse to own any of those gray market PD garbage sets.

That will leave just the iTV-owned silents Criterion likely controls. The Pleasure Garden will probably be paired up with Easy Virtue (like The Lodger with Downhill). The talkies consist of Waltzes from Vienna, Secret Agent, Sabotage, and Young and Innocent. Plus the inevitable upgrade of Spellbound.

Pretty amazing that it's entirely possible by 2020 that all 52 of Hitchcock's surviving feature films will be available on Blu-ray.

Terrific news. Money burns a hole in my pocket for these Hitchcocks. This will almost
complete my Hitchcock collection, except for Juno and the Paycock, Waltzes from
Vienna
and Spellbound.

We also need a reissue of Jamaica Inn because Cohen Media Group’s Blu-ray fell out of print.

I preordered it, so I was lucky enough to get it, but it went OOP almost immediately. People kept claiming it was just a shortage of stock and would be restocked eventually, which it never was. I wonder if it was a limited run, where they just didn't announce the number.

Could some kind soul change the title of the thread?

HITCHCOCK 9 is the name under which the restored silent films are collectively known and this release will not include all of them. The title is confusing.

It should say "9 Hitchcock titles" or something like that, and not in caps.

Thanks!

I was wondering that myself, and my best guess is this, a German silent film based on the same play done a few years before Hitchcock's. The play has been adapted three times besides Hitchcock, but this one seems not so much the most notable as the least unnotable.
