I'm sure this is going to rub some the wrong way but it needs to be asked IMO. There's a thread over at AVS (sorry don't know how to link) that states Panny is purposefully holding back their BD player because they intend to announce a hybrid player and possibly a HD DVD standalone by xmas. Also, that Pioneer will have an HD DVD player by next June. Pioneer announced their player last January at CES for a May delivery and it is still not out with no firm date. Panny much the same. Delays are inevitable with new technologies but isn't it a little troubling that these top companies cannot get a working unit into production and to the marketplace?
Of course the thread is fueled by that tool Oshodi but it makes one wonder. With the disastrous launch BD has had could some of the major CE companies (Panny, Denon, Marantz) and studios (Disney, MGM, Lionsgate) be on the verge of supporting HD DVD? Those of you who know me from my history know that I fully support BD. Yes I have a Toshiba player but it is only because I love HD movies and want as much as is available. I have been waiting for the Panny but will mostlikely buy a PS3 if I'm lucky enough to get in line 24hrs. in advance. Reports are coming back from the Tokyo game show that the PS3 is simply amazing. If this is true I don't see how Sony/BD can loose. I certainly don't understand or believe that these companies and studios are willing to jump ship before the first PS3 even hits the streets and possibly only 30,000 HD DVD players sold. This forum has become a great alternative to AVS with reasoned, intelligent discussion. I look forward to everyone's thoughts, opinions, etc. |

What I saw on AVS was a year old FUD story in an AVS thread that got shut down. Even those mods saw it for the lie it was, shot it down, and locked the thread. Thank God! ![]() https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...1320#post21320 Look over the last page of this where a bunch of us got into that. Gets pretty amusing. ![]() Last edited by JTK; 09-29-2006 at 05:57 PM. |

Asking why Panny and Pioneer still cannot get there players out to market is a fair question, is it not? Hell, a lot of you know I will be able to get any of these players at cost and have offered you a chance to buy via PM. I did not see the other thread discussing this or I would not have started a new thread. Sorry. NYG feel free to delete this if you like. |

![]() Whatever those reasons are, I'm 100 percent positive they have nothing to do whatsoever with that FUD and lie story. I am hoping and thinking it's for much needed quality control issues and hopefully some futureproofing issues being addressed. I see it all shaping up for that unified launch all in November. PS3, the standalone players, you name it. I think that's what we're headed for, as expected. I don't want them to rush this stuff out! Quote:

I don't think it's fair to lump Panasonic in with Pioneer and Sony as far as delays to their players. Panasonic always announced and intended September shipping from day one, and they've met that goal, seeing as they apparently shipped to retailers some time around CEDIA and places like Tweeter show they'll receive players as early as next week.

this is my thought. all the players have been shown for a while now. i think the companies are just waiting for everyone to be ready for the shock and awe deployment.

To be fair, it is unfortunate that these players' release dates are so nebulous. The BR group needs to realize the importance of the "U" in FUD. Uncertanty leads to the FUD spreaders and without any concrete info it's tough to shut them up. I was hoping that the BR freight train is comming full force this holiday but given the specs of the systems it looks like the PS3 will be flying solo for the most part until Q1 2007. I'm not sensing the "shock and awe" from players that lack HDMI 1.3, can't decode Dolby HD & DTS HD, & don't have BR-Live support. Of course the PS3 alone should cause a *huge* sales boost for BR titles. If not however then the battle will be even longer then expected.

as for the rest of your post, what are you talking about? the ps3 flying solo? come on, we have seen no indication that things won't launch. we have only heard rumors of delays. if you are concerning yourself over hdmi 1.3, get over it. the tosh doesn't have it. no one even owns equipment yet that supports 1.3 so it will do nothing for you for 6 months at the very least. as for the other audio codecs, yes it is dissapointing. the plus side is that it is supposed to be able to be upgraded via firmware. so while it may matter at launch, it isn't a concern down the road. |

I'm not unduly concerned by the HDMI thing personally as by the time I come to update my amp and projector to a 1.3 unit I'll probably be ready to replace my BD player anyway

Just so there's no misunderstandings, I'll post this publicly: Longshot has been one of my friends for months across several forums and I'd NEVER post something deragtory or "hostile" against him or any of my other friends for any reason whatsoever. He's one of my boys. ![]() I truly apologize for ANY misunderstandings along that line whatsoever. ![]() I look at my post and I can see where, if you can't read my mind ![]() Gotta love the Internet. Guys, it's a RUMOR. We can discuss it intelligently and objectively. Some will simply dismiss it outright. Others may point out, as Longshot has, that there are signs that point to the possibility of these rumors being true. And he is right. That doesnt mean the rumor will turn out to be true. But I don't think there are sufficient facts to completely rule it out, either. Edit: as a follow up, I am a bit confused as to why there seems to be so much hostility towards the idea of Panasonic or other manufacturers making a universal player? Wouldn't this be a good thing? I wouldn't want to think that people simply want Blu-ray to win, and HD-DVD to lose, without having a good reason. A universal player would almost make the format war meaningless, in the same manner universal DVD-A and SACD players did. I would buy a universal player immediately. Whichever company is the first to offer a universal player will sell a lot of them (relative to other HD players), so why wouldn't we expect them to do so? Why wouldn't we want them to do so? I don't believe the rumor but if it does turn out to be true it would certainly change the outlook for HD DVD and Blu-ray. It would also make me feel better about investing into two formats instead of just one. I'd love a Pioneer dual format player. That said, if this were to happen I'd prefer it happening ASAP. I don't yet own a BD player and my HD DVD player is less than perfect. I believe Pioneer or Panasonic could provide us a far better player than Toshiba has and would love for it to happen. This doesn't make me pro HD DVD or pro BD, it makes me pro not wanting my money to have gone to waste.
