There's something odd with regards to ps-3 when also looking at the same features on ps-2. If i want toslink, stero l/r audio, composite, svhs and component all enabled on ps-2 i can have it all checked and simontaniously useable.
Now while ps-3 does so many things better than 2 you'd think it'd at least have an auto senseing ability to enable whatever was hooked up to it but it's far more cumbersome than that because if you're using HDMI and go to the relitives who have component,if you're lucky, well you must perform the downgrade before you leave due to not being able to simply check what you want and simply not use it all at 1nce. I'd like to be able to set up HDMI,toslink and multi-out all as avaible but if i was using HDMI for video then the multi-out if used would simply be for audio. Both TOSLINK and l/r analog should be avaible at the same time. Turning on HDMI for audio should disable TOSLINK but leave l/r able to be used if needed-like when you don't want to wake your neibors. Hopefully a firmware update will fix this but i consider it very rough now. |

HDMI is a bitstream digital output. Toslink is as well but its obsolete when you have HDMI connected.
All the other connectors you mention are analogue. The problem is with video outputs on hi tech equipment is that they use a video processor which has digital turned on or off (if off, analogue connections are enabled). You would need two completely separate video processors in the same machine to have both outputs running at the same time. I am not sure if HDMI has a pin for self activation, but I would guess not. PS2 does not have any digital outputs apart from Toslink, so on the AV port can cater for all outputs. It does however require a dash change to switch between RGB and component video, which doesn't affect most people. |
