only the 20GB, 60GB, original 80GB, and the Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB PS3's will play PS2 games. 40, newer 80 that came after Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3, and the 160 GB PS3's do not play PS2 games. But you can play PS1 games on all of them.

I have one of the original 60 Gig PS/3 models dating back to March 2007.
It does play PS/2 games. But the models they sell these days do not. I would suggest that for the newer PS/3 machines that do not play PS/2 games you hook up a PS/2 machine -- it really is quite tiny. The real drawback however is that PS/2 will reintroduce controllers with wires into your setup. My daughter still plays a lot of PS/2 games and what I love about the PS/3 is the wireless controllers. |

Refer to the one above about selling that one. Thank you. You really love to argue with me. It's really sad. But, your completely wrong because I sold that one and I have 2 launch PS3s that both play PS2 games so thanks but no thanks.

No, what's difficult is you trying to argue with everything I say in addition to you thinking you know everything about my setup and what I have. FYI I haven't changed my signature but I guess I will now so that you can once and for all quit arguing with me.

Original Poster - "I need help, I guess I should have checked, but my PS3 I just bought doesn't play PS2 games" CK - "The two I have do." Really? Well whoopdee f---king doo for you! You obviously understand that there are different models of PS3, so what was the point of saying that in the first place. You cry foul that everyone is jumping all over you, but if you hadn't been an ass in the first place we wouldn't be having this conversation. ![]() To the original poster: As others have mentioned, some of the earlier PS3 models have different levels of backwards compatability, but the newer 80 and 160 GB ones do not. Most will tell you just to run both systems if you still play PS2 games. I agree. Others however will tell you that you should look for one of the older models with backwards compatability. Basically the newer models are quieter, more power efficient, and most likely more reliable. If you can live with both systems it's the cheaper option - personally I barely have enough time to play my new PS3 games, so the idea of going back and playing a ton of PS2 games seems unlikely to me. If I needed to keep it for the kids, I'd probably just hook it up to a spare non-HD tv and let my daughter use that (though mine is a little young for that at the moment). |
