Question Help with Setup Onkyo SR875 / Sam bd-p1200

Below is a link to my Home cinema although it needs updating as The images are of my old system which was a Sony Dream System 5.1 ... its now Onkyo SR875 with Mordant Short 7.1 Speakers and KEF Sub ...

A few questions ...

1. My player is Sammy 1200 - Im connected to the Onkyo by HDMI ... do I choose Bitstream or PCM ?
2. what is the best sound selection on the ONKYO
3. why does the sound seem better on movies in Dobly digital as apposed to uncompressed ???
Any help will be very welcome

Default I have the 805

You want to set it to bitstream. I have the 805 and this is how you will get dtshd, trueHD, and master audio. The only thing that sucks is if the movie is in 5.1 you need to use ultra2 to get 7.1 surrond. The receiver will show in red that it is receiving trueHD ect, but if you have the receiver decoding HD sound it will only play in 5.1.

The Sammsung BD-P1200 does not decode nor can it send Dolby TrueHD or Dts-HD Master. (hopefully a firmware update will change that)

In the meantime, it is probably best to leave it set on Bitstream. (This will send the "core" mix which will still sound excellent because its originated from the Lossless mix. When you select an Uncompressed PCM track it will automatically default to Linear PCM so you dont have to worry about switching back and forth, just leave it on bitstream.)

As for why they sound different to you? well, a whole bunch of factors play a part. Sound Level matching for starters, DSP's applied, Dialnorm, Bassmanagement, room dynamics, quality speakers...and the list goes on.

anyways, just enjoy.

Where it might be nice to have a FW update change the audio on the 1200 the fact is that it cannot.
Samsung pulled a fast one or that is what I say they did. Just before releasing this unit they changed the SoC to a Broadcom 7411 when they were going to use the 7440. They sited manafacturing delays. Well the 7411 cannot do any of the HD audio.

So the 1200 is a 1.3 HDMI player that only supports Deep Color which is not being used. Or in otherwords it might as well been a 1.2 player.

My brother will be in the same boat. Since I have upgraded he is getting my 1200 for Christmas.

But I was pissed when I learned since I bought it for the 1.3 outputs. And is why I donot believe anything Samsung says until I see it.
