Default 12/23 War still on

This is going to be a week that we need to not lapse, especially moving into CES.
Hd has some nasty tricks this week, Amazon doing the A-3 with 10 movies again (2/3/5) and Best Buy has a buy any 2 get any 1 free.
Compound this with the fact that many of us have already picked up Rush Hour 3 and even Pan's Labyrinth and those will not be on the numbers.
(I held off on Pan's for this purpose).
Luckily a couple of their movies hit early too.
We may get sales this week, we may not but hopefully we will not be worn out from Xmas to let a week slip through the cracks.
Use those gift cards and return those nasty socks and sweaters and get the movies that you want.
They want to lie and say Potter is close, we will take all doubt from them.

I dont think we have to worry. DUDers always buy their titles within the 1st week. Residuals on their BIG titles are fairly non existent compared to residuals of BD sales (For example, Pirates, superbad, die hards, etc).

They already lost their shot. Its over. I dont think we will have to worry about winning another week ever again. Give them their bogos and their b2g1 sales... let them move product from the shelves so that there is more room for the BD selection after CES when it is announced that UNI, Para, NL, Warner all go exclusive and Toshiba announces their first BD player!

(ok that is stretched a little )

We certainly need to win every week, but I don't see any week the rest of this year that Red will pick up a win.

It seems crazy that people will buy movies just to try and beat HD-DVD. I will buy movies because I want them, and not because I want to bump up some numbers. Sorry, but that's just me.

My mother sent me a $150 Amazon gift cretificate for Christmas early!

Guess where thats going.

I wonder if I should spend It all on catalog titles next week, or wait until January for new releases, as I already have/preordered everything new.

Does anyone know if US Amazon gift certificates can be used on UK amazon?

Also, does anyone know if UK amazon titles will count on Neilsons? (I dont think they will )

And me personally. But if you're concerned about the numbers, the HD DVD's for next week also came out early so really the Amazon.com and Best Buy sales are all you need to truly worry about. And 1 week out of how many? And it's not even due to any major releases. If this one week is all that studios look at, the future of home entertainment is in some deep trouble because there's some major idiots behind the wheel.

Maybe some people aren't 100% confident in blu-ray. It seems there is a lot of posts about buying just to beat HD-DVD. But around my area HD-DVD's are not moving at all. For this market it's not even close. I think the so-called "war" is over and the troops have gone home. There may be pockets of violence from some people that didn't get the memo that the war is over but they soon will.

How is that nasty tricks? It's nothing Blu-Ray hasn't done, in fact Blu-Ray has done better!

well i know amazon is not a good indicater. But there is a lot to be said for older titles with no specials creeping up quickly, Casino Royale, 300 etc. also, let us note 2001 space oddyssey on BD almost near the top 100, with no specials on it yet the HD DVD version which is part of the any 3 free with a player is between 500 and 600.

Blade runner as well, once it came back in stock is ahead both limited editions. also HP showing its BD legs, as most BD titles do. Ratty creeping back up.

BD = HD in peoples minds. HD DVD = uninformed cheapskates buying the wrong software.

This does not mean much it is really only 3 titles that will count. And I am sure we will have some BOGO or B2G1 sales for the day after Christmas.

I buy every week even if I don't see anything I want. I just always seem to need my Blu fix. I did it Saturday night when I bought Layer Cake and of all things, Underdog.

If people think that buying a few movies to return in january will make a difference, think again, those returns count negative against the total for that week. This would be a sure fire way to have a very bad week in january.

I think people should really just buy what you want to watch, don't buy what you don't want to watch and let the format war take care of itself.

I'm up to ~15 BRs but have pretty much run out of things that I really want to own. It's gotten to the point where I'm looking at those cheap HD DVD players longingly as there are actually quite a few movies on that format I wouldn't mind having in the HD collection. Warner, Universal, & Paramount need to hurry the heck up and come to their senses.

I don't see any difference whether blu-ray wins 52 to 0 or 51 to 1. Can you actually see the hd dvd camp using this as a marketing ploy. To say they beat blu-ray once during 2007 concedes that they lost 51 weeks.
It's not like WB, or any other studio, would change their mind about going blu-ray exclusive because hd dvd won one stinking week out of an entire year.
It would be irritating to see it happen, however.
