Default Noobish question about speakerwire's and speakerterminals

Guys, I got an old hometheater system of a few year back. I want to give you the model number but I can't remember it anymore. It was a hometheater system all in one. Wire etc was in the box.
My setup has the same speakers as this one:

The receiver and the subwoofer are different though.

I plan on buying a new HDMI 1.3 receiver. I plan on using the speakers I got right now. They are 6ohm 100mhz speakers.

The speakers and my current receiver have these kind of speaker terminals:

When I watch the pictures of the plugs on the back of the receivers I am interested in, they use round speaker terminals.

I have standard 16 gauge speaker wire, this kind:

Will I be able to connect these wires once I buy a new receiver?
Or do I have to buy new wires, or a complete new speaker set even (because the speakers use the old kind of speaker terminals).

Thanks

Yes, they are compatiable.

The round plugs also accept the banana plug for faster connections. If you choose not to use those, you just twist the round connectors until they are secure around the speaker wire....good luck

Which is better?
The 16 or the 12?

Whichever is worse, that's the one I have, lolz.

And thanks for the responses ya'll.

12 gauge speaker wire is better than 16 gauge speaker wire for audio reproduction. But I wouldn't worry that much as long as your wire runs are limited to 50 feet or less. Longer runs probably would require the 12 gauge speaker wire. The 16 gauge wire is fine for short runs unless you're an absolute audiophile.
