Default Competing Identical Movies (White House Down/Olympus Has Fallen, etc)

With the release of White House Down, a lot of conversations lately bring up past occurrences where two very similar films were released around the same time. Here's a breakdown and comparison of all the ones I could think of. Let me know if I missed any (theatrical releases only, not those rushed direct-to-video ripoffs; and only those released very close to each other - not like years apart)

Don't forget Finding Nemo (2003) and Shark Tale (2004).

There was also Robin Hood: Price of Thieves and Robin Hood (both 1991). I believe the latter was a TV movie in the states but it got a worldwide theatrical release to try and rival the Costner version.

United 93 and World Trade Center both came out in 2006 but were different enough and concentrated on different aspects of the disaster. Also it wasn't a coincidence both came out the same year, both were timed to the fifth anniversary.

Also, The Wild really is that bad. It's just garbage.

Oh yeah! Thanks! Added Nemo/Shark Tale to the list. I'm going to leave off Robin Hood for now, since I'm using US Box Office to compare and that one has none. SO I'll stick with US theaterical releases.

Also (on a much smaller scale) recently there were 2 Countess Bathory films made (The Countess / Bathory)

I didn't know Olympus Has Fallen was also Sony. They also released WHD. Why would they compete with themselves? I smell a badass double feature BD set down the road.

I think Sony bought the video rights but it was something like filmdistrict that released it theatrically

Good one on Dredd and The Raid. I can't believe I forgot that one!

This is a cool thread, funny how you don't realise how many movies had similar rivals until you list them.

You know what's funny about White House Down? Sony paid $3 million for a spec script b/c it was the best script that they'd come across in a while.

And then someone else released Olympus Has Fallen before them.

Cool post. The funny thing is that I immediately thought of Observe and Report vs. Paul Blart: Mall Cop.
