It was especially ridiculous when it was originally going to be "The House on Haunted Hill" vs. "The Haunting of Hill House".
Eventually they decided to go with just "The Haunting" (same title as the first adaptation) instead of the original book title.

I'm not sure I would consider those, since Fast is an existing franchise long before this other film was announced.
I guess I was more thinking, like someone else mentioned, of new movies released within months or a year of each other, where it's just weird coincidence, since both had to have already been in production and not knock-offs.

pretty comprehensive list, you can say there is always a (b) extraordinarily cheap version produced as well, usually starring Michael Dudikoff :P.

in a slightly different interpretation, there have been similar themes passing through movies as well, such as the crunched moon hovering in orbit. Oblivion, Star Trek, Man of Steel and seemingly Riddick have these .

I thought of one that struck me at the time -- Megamind and Despicable Me. Same year, both animated kids features with the idea of a super-villain as the central character, revealing a heart of gold.
