Default ‘Female Robin Hood’ Film ‘Marian’ Being Eyed By A-Listers

Quote:
h/t to The Tracking Board for this hot story: Marian is being described as a ‘female-driven Robin Hood’ from the point of Marian herself and her fight to save the kingdom.

“…offers have started to come in for what has become one of this year’s hottest spec scripts, as the A-list talent circling continues to expand. Joining the frenzy of talent and producers who we previously reported (below) had expressed interest heading into the weekend, we now hear Margot Robbie and Jennifer Lawrence are circling the project, as are producers Amy Pascal, Donald De Line and Ian Bryce. The much talked-about project went into Oscar weekend with a full head of steam, as the buzz around the female-driven franchise hit dizzying heights before the industry’s biggest night. Now, as the spec makes its way into into every studio, it appears the fast-brewing bidding war will come down to the right package finding the right home.” Other A-Listers noted near this project are Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson and Daisy Ridley.

Read more on this story here – The Tracking Board is updating this as news comes in and they’re really excited about this project since there are so many A-Listers being courted
*Updated as Offers Come in* Brie Larson, Daisy Ridley, & Alicia Vikander Circling as the Hottest Spec in Town Gears Up for the Weekend!
Quote:
*UPDATED February 27th, 2017*

We are now hearing multiple offers have started to come in for what has become one of this year’s hottest spec scripts, as the A-list talent circling continues to expand. Now, as the spec makes its way into into every studio, it appears the fast-brewing bidding war will come down to the right package finding the right home.

Previously Reported…

Now on everyone’s radar, Pete Barry’s red-hot spec MARIAN has fast become the talk of the town as A-list producers and stars fight for territories.

Out from Paradigm’s David Boxerbaum, the project, which is being pitched as a grounded female-driven reimagining of the legend of Robin Hood, now has multiple producers requesting territories, as we can continue to exclusively track the moves. As previously reported, Alicia Vikander was the first star to begin circling, and now we’re hearing both Daisy Ridley and Brie Larson are in the mix for select territories with packages that include producers Steven Spielberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Simon Kinberg, Tripp Vinson, Doug Belgrad, Shawn Levy and Micheal De Luca, among others. Each is eyeing this project as the start of a new female-driven franchise for their home studio, and as we all know, star-driven packages make everything happen more quickly.

Vikander, Ridley and Larson, who are no strangers to Hollywood tentpoles with the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot (Vikander), the Star Wars series (Ridley) and the upcoming Avengers and Captain Marvel films (Larson), are among the fastest-rising and most recognizable faces in Hollywood. As they begin to circle, you know studios are already looking ahead to the franchise potential of Marian. Factor in the built-in IP of Robin Hood (even as a reimagining) and the growing expectation on foreign box office, and even though only one of these women will land the titular lead role, any studio will still come out a winner.

Having hit the town last night as a top secret spec (sans title page or logline), the project created a frenzy of buzz as execs fought for a chance to read, and talk of those who had read it spread across the early Oscar parties of the week. Once revealed to be a female-driven franchise starter, the talk quickly turned to action, as the fight to get the script intensified.

Boxerbaum, who has now sold seven spec scripts in as many weeks, may be in the middle of one of the biggest bidding wars of 2017 only 24 hours after the script started going out. As producers begin to battle for territories at every single studio, we can only sit and wait to see which star wins the role, which producer wins the territory, and which studio wins their next franchise.

Set to be produced by Rock Shaink and his Romark Entertainment, who previously teamed up with Paradigm to sell the spec script Matriarch to Paramount, Marian is represented by David Boxerbaum of Paradigm and Andrea Dimity of Pannon Entertainment.

People really love Robin Hood and the whole shared Universe type thing. I don't know how trustworthy those sites are though.

I don't remember much about Robin Hood. I remember Robin Hood: Men In Tights more than the Kevin Costner version.

But seems a lot of top talent for this.

Indeed! I haven't actually seen either of those versions. I'll get around to it though.

And yeah. It's cool to see projects like this get big talent involved. I'm hoping this ends up well!

Men In Tights is a Mel Brooks movie.

I remember that sweet Bryan Addams song from the Costner one though.

Sure the studio is taking this serious in hopes of big things to come. Same here. Not a lot of female type stuff like this.

The idea for this movie sounds good, but I can't help not getting too excited because of the other Robin Hood reboot that's cooking (with Taron Egerton, who's been awesome in everything he's been in that I've seen). But depending on who they cast, this could be good.

"Female Robin Hood" is misleading since this is about the character of Marian.

And that is such a typical, boring and uninspired short list.

Edit: Actually, that doesn't sound like it's a studio shortlist. Just top actresses fighting for a hot spec script.

Please not Robbie or Lawrence. Both of them are wrong for it, not to mention both are teetering on the edge of overexposure. Getting a little tired of them.

You must fix this at once. Men in Tights is a classic.

None of those actresses are proven box office draws though. You could maybe make an argument about Lawrence but Passengers was her first big budget film that relied solely on her name, and it wasn't exactly a hit.

They should hire a French chick from a movie no one hardly anyone ever saw. That's how you get people to see your film.

Actually, you get people to see your film by making a good movie. A-listers can definitely generate attention and put at least some asses in seats but if they cast Jane Nobody in a good movie people will go see it.

Movie would have to be interesting starring a nobody. Where as a famous person is involved. People are already involved. And more likely to see it.

The only case of stuff like the new Star Wars. Where people see it no matter who was in it.
