I have a Pioneer BDP-95HD Blu-ray player with an Elite VSX91THX receiver connected via an HDMI Cable. The 95 does have the latest firmware update, by the way. When I try to play moives that are DTS-HD Master Audio, the audio skips and makes terrible noise, making the movies unwatchable. The Dolby French tracks plays great! Example: "Home Of the Brave" & "RoboCop"
What settings in the blu-ray player do I need to select? PCM, ect. What settings on the VSX91THX receiver do I need to select, if any? I am a little confused, it plays Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 discs great! It also plays Dolby Ture HD with no problems at all. Am I just not selecting the correct settings or pressing the correct button, or is this another firmware update that is needed to correct the DTS HD output? Thanks for any Help! |

I run the bdp-95fd and the vsx-94thx receiver in my setup. Set the bd player to bitstream the audio, no pcm. You shouldn't have to do anything special on the receiver to decode the audio, but I'd suggest that you set it to THX mode if you have a 7.1 speaker system. If the blu-ray isn't native 7.1, this will make it 7.1.

I have been working on this issue most of the day. It turns out that I have found a bug in the Pioneer BDP95THX firmware. I tried everything with this unit, even doing a hard reset. It does play all of my other DTS titles fine. The bug is in the way MGM/UA encoded the moives "Home of the Brave" and "RoboCop". There could be more MGM/UA titles, but that is all I have on hand.
Pioneer is aware now of the issue, and a case number is on file. Hopefully there will be another firmware release in the near future to address this issue for the 95. We tried the titles in 2 other banded blu-ray players, and they played fine. This appears to just be a Pioneer only issue. |

The issue is that when you play these titles using DTS HD Master Audio on a 95 (We used a Pioneer VSX91THX & a Pioneer VSX94THX receiver for audio connected via an HDMI cable) you get choppy audio with load bust of static. You can not watch the movies at all. This issue is present in Firmware 3.0, 3.1, and the lastest 3.2 release. Pioneer is aware now of the issue, and a case number is on file. Hopefully there will be another firmware release in the near future to address this issue for the 95. We tried the titles in 2 other banded blu-ray players, and they played fine. This appears to just be a Pioneer only issue. And, it does not effect DTS titles from other companies. We played 6 20th Century Fox titles, and they played fine. So if your MGM/UA titles are giving you audio problems, it is not the discs. I just thought I would save other some headaches by passing this along. Have a Happy New Year! |

I have checked everyone of my MGM titles that has a DTS HD MA track on them today and they all play fine. I even found one I had forgotten I ordered on a BOGO sale.
Flyboys Home of the Brave Mr Brooks Rescue Dawn Robocop And everyone of them plays fine. I only watched about 10 mins of each. So how often are you getting the noise? |
