Default DTS HD Sound Problems

DTS HD Sound Problems

I have a Sony BDPS500 Blu-Ray Player with firmware Version 4.30. It is connected to a Yamaha HTR 6180 receiver via an HDMI cable. Other devices connected to the HTR 6180 receiver are; an HD cable box and a Sony Play Station 3, all using HDMI cables. The receiver’s HDMI output is connected to a Sony XBR4 panel.

I recently purchased the following Blu-Ray movies;

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
Vavkyrie
Knowing

When I play these movies, the English DTS HD audio track is output on the HTR 6180 receiver in stereo only although he Dolby French track plays in full 5.1 Surround Sound.

I tried all the BDPS500’s audio settings; I tried using the analog audio connections between the player and receiver and also tried the optical connection with the same results, it still plays the English DTS HD audio track in stereo.

I Called Sony, they have no record of such problem, that's what I was told. They were of little help.

If I use the PS3 Blu-Ray feature, its works great, I get the English DTS HD audio track in full Surround Sound.

Someone will say use only the PS3 to play Blu-Ray DVDs, however, because of its availability I can not always use the PS3.

Thanks for any Help!

unless its been updated by a firmware update, the player doesnt support dts ma. note there is a difference between dts-hd high res and dts-hdma

It's great how they have the DTS-HD MA logo right there in the advertising, but don't list it in the actual specifications.

its not unusual for sony to have mistakes like this on thier site. thats why when i look i always get a second opinion at another site. in the manual where all the audio settings and codecs are listed (cant remember the page), youll notice that the true hd audio settings for hdmi will state truehd but for dtsma it only states dts.

Your only going to get the core DTS track. Your player doesn't internally decode or bitstream DTS-HD Master Audio. You'll have to wait for a firmware update. Or get another player if you want DTS-HD Master Audio.

Most companies put the DTS HD Logo on their player but under it it says in small print "advanced digital out" or "essential".. meaning that it can only be output via bitstream
