Default Blair Witch (2016)

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: I’m hearing rumblings of some major happenings over at Lionsgate that I haven’t had a chance to confirm yet. But, now that you’re reading this, I’m officially poking the bear(s) in hopes of gaining clarity.

In a potential monstrous exclusive (please, no eggs to the face!), an insider is telling us that Lionsgate is already in production on a new entry to the The Blair Witch Project series!

Is it a remake? Is it a sequel? Is it a spinoff? We aren’t sure. BUT, it’s quite possible that the newly announced The Woods, which is being directed by Adam Wingard from a screenplay by Simon Barrett, is said film. We just don’t know for sure.

The Woods‘ plot is being kept very much under wraps, which only lends credence to this theory. What we know is that it does, “…involve a group of college students on a camping trip who discover they are not alone.” If that doesn’t sound like the perfect foundation for a new Blair Witch film, I don’t know what would!

If this story proves true, the new Blair Witch is being produced by Keith Calder and Jessica Wu of Snoot (You’re Next, The Guest), Roy Lee (Poltergeist, The Ring) and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious). That’s quite a team!

Rumors about a third Blair Witch have been swirling for years. Back just this past January Blair Witch co-director Eduardo Sanchez said a sequel was inevitable.

The 1999 The Blair Witch Project made a whopping $248M at the box office, which had Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, the non-found-footage sequel in theaters by 2000. It was a huge flop and canned the series for the past 15 years. To me, a third Blair Witch is a no-brainer, and always has been. How exciting would this be?!

And…could we finally see “The Witch” this time around?!

I’m going to see what I can find out this weekend and update the story accordingly.

As this is Bloody-Disgusting.com take this with a grain of salt. It does seem to have some credibility to it though. They have been trying to get a new BWP movie going for years now and last we heard they were pretty close.

yeah, their site is shoddy at best.

They've been trying to do this for the last I don't know how many years.

As others have stated, you can only take news (rumors) like this so seriously, because the film has basically been rumored for the past 15 years.

I'm a huge fan of the first movie. It is absolutely one of my all-time favorites. The second one is not even that bad. But the only real direction for a third one is seeing the Witch and learning every intricate detail about her/It. I don't want to know all that.

If it does happen I'll definitely check it out. If it were from the team behind The Guest and You're Next I'd actually be excited. But I'd be more excited if they were working on an original movie. Or a sequel to The Guest .

I remember when I was 11 our family bought our first analog "cable box" (a 3rd party box that unscrambled the PPV channels).

Anyhow one of the movies that was coming on frequently at the time was Blair Witch Book of Shadows and the "flashback" scenes of them running nude around the woods and killing those tourists still freaks me out just thinking about it.

The 2nd wasn't bad. A prequel would be interesting.

If they have to do another found footage film, might as well be Blair Witch. Strike while the iron's hot.

They should focus on Rustin Parr...and the Burketsville 7.

It could be a sort of found footage type...without the footage...Instead the story could be told by one of the hikers finding/purchasing a dairy kept by Parr (or an eyewitness) who retells the account of what happened back in the 40's when he kept hearing a woman's voice tell him to lure those seven children to his cabin, and killed them for her.

Give us Book of Shadows on blu already. It's obviously too much to ask for a director's cut, but I'll do it anyway.

I don't know why, but that scene creeped the hell out of me when I was little. BoS was far from perfect, but it had plenty of things going for it.

It would be cool to see a new film telling Elly's history or a film based on the first Blair Witch game: Rustin Parr, which is actually the only BW game I played.

Default ummm ...really off topic here, but...

...couldn't we (and really guys and gals ...shouldn't we), all feel obligated to do the right thing here ... how about it ladies and gents?

...and by that I simply mean, shouldn't we just forget all about the Blair Witch and funnel every single available penny into "Evil Dead 4: Ash vs. the Deadites A.K.A. Ash Van Winkle"!!!

you know you want it...

Bruce gotta eat...

Sanchez' interview with Dread Central from January 2015 said he wouldn't be surprised if something happens in the next year or two, as of 2016, 2017.
http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/855...-rather-later/

It's not easy to pull off another found footage movie and keep it original each time, but I'd be interested in a new found footage film of The Blair Witch set in the woods again. Having seen the original movie a lot, they'd have to find new ways to keep the ambient horror fresh.

Sanchez made another found footage movie that was a pretty good horror about Bigfoot, "Exists". I was eager to see if he could keep the tension in another found footage movie and despite re-using some old tricks, he succeeded IMO.
