I just got back from Frys to catch another one of those 14.99 deals and EVERY Blu Ray movie had their price tags torn off... I asked the guy what was up, thinknig some kid torn them off and stuff.. then low behold I noticed, they were all off.... He said they are raising the prices.

ON ALL~! WUSSUPWITDAT!?

Are they being raised above their normal retail prices or just the $14.99 sale price? Why would they be raising prices on all their BDs?

Nah im not talking about anything on sales... im talking about NORMAL RETAIL PRICE, EVERY SINGLE PRICE TAG ON EVERY MOVIE WAS TORN OFF! PEELED OFF, ETC.
It was a pain in the ass, trying to figure out what movies I wanted to buy, with no prices and all, thats why I asked, and they said they were raising the prices on all the blu-rays.

So im sure it was probably effective today, I mean, how long are they gonna go with no prices on them at all.

(I was just saying in reference to the 14.99 sale, it ends today, so I was just going in yesterday to get one more of the titles before it ended, thats when I discovered the above mentioned.)

I always went to Frys because they had the best prices on blu-ray. They were usually at least $5 cheaper than BB. If they raise their prices, I suppose I'll stop going there and just use Amazon.

If Fry's has raised their prices, the best way to respond to this is to not buy any titles. I'd go to the counter and ask for a manager, not a floor jockey. I'd tell the manager that you've been a loyal customer and constant purchaser of their Blu-Ray movies, but since they have raised their prices and you can now get them cheaper at Amazon and Best Buy, you'll be spending your money there.

That feedback is much appreciated and when they see that Blu-Ray sales drop, they will consider what the manager was told and they should respond accordingly.

Yes, it's a sad fact that competing sale prices factored in to the format war and now that the war is effectively over, retailers feel they do not need to continue those incentives. But if we shop where the prices are lower, the stores that raised their prices will go back to lower prices in order to get us back in their stores.

Not to diminish your point at all, but rarely does any guest complaint/suggestion ever get filed. More or less the manager is just sympathetic to the situation. The decisions are coming from corporate, not from the store.

Even if they go up they will eventually come down again. Personally I haven't been there and buy most my blu's at BB.

I have seen the tags off of a lot of the blu-rays at Frys for months (in OR) and they have never raise their prices here...

These were most likely sale prices thru the holidays. We had those same tags up here in our market and they went down after the first of the year. You honestly cannot expect them to keep those retail prices everyday, not when the average retail is $19.00 on up to $34.00.

I hope you picked up plenty of titles though with that sale price.

i too went to frys yesterday to try and take advantage of the 14.99 deal but they said they would not be having those anymore on blu-ray.
i was gonna get jay and silent bob + bad santa which would normally be 30-40 for both, but, when i had the price scan it, it came up at 29.99 each.

the sticker said 19.99 but they said their inventory had updated and there was a new price point on blu.

they still wont match their own online prices which is ridiculous.

oh btw, evil dead 2 is on sale now from 16.99 retail price to 22.99 sale price

I stopped going to Fry's Electronics here in Phoenix a LONG time ago. When they first opened their pricing was aggressive, but that ended after the first year or so.

Amazon is getting my Blu money these days.

We knew this might happen.... Blu wins and perhaps our famous BOGO's with Amazon will disappear like HD-DVD will disappear.

But we had it good for awhile and I hope everyone took advantage and stocked up. Blu disc prices going up is yet another sign (however unfortunate) that we're going to win the war.

-John K.

EDIT - with the combined buying power of everyone on this forum, is there any chance we could approach a retailer and discuss a collective discount, as long as we ID ourselves as forum members and we reach certain sales levels? Man, looking at everyone's signatures and collections lists we have to make up a healthy block of buying power... ????
