Default audio set up questions

okay...i posted the other night about set up questions.....and i followed you guys' advice.

blu-ray player is connected to the tv w/ hdmi...pic is great, and sound is coming out of the tv.

then i connect the blu-ray to my receiver via 5.1 multi ch output. my question is the center and subwf are colored black (monoaural)....the guy at BB they dont sell the black cables and said the regular stereo cords will work (white / red), so i tried this. I put spiderman 3 in, and sounds is only coming out of the tv and my left and right speakers. The center, subwf, and left/right surrounds speakers are not working. Any advice here? I realize I might need the monoarual cables, but why would that affect the surrounds?

Thanks in advance.

The Blu-Ray player's audio is set to PCM, try setting to 5.1 and using optical. That or set the Receiver to use the analog. The cables should be fine.

RCA's work fine. It sounds like you are getting PCM, but only in 2.0. This usually happens when using a Digital Audio cable.

be sure the settings in the player have these speaker channels turned on. Also, I wonder since the audio is going through the HDMI that this may affect the Analog outs...try turning off HDMI AUDIO OUTPUT.

If all youre speakers play, then that was the problem.

also make sure PCM downconversion is off.

Default Much needed audio help...

Hi,

I just got a Blu-Ray player and I'm having audio trouble. I've got a Samsung HDTV, a Samsung HTX50 home theater, TW Cable HD Box, and a Sharp Aquos BD HP20U Blu Ray Player. I was wondering what I need to do to get audio to play through my home theater? I ordered a 3 port HDMI switcher and it should be here tomorrow. I read a post where someone said you needed an optical cable running from the BluRay player to the home theater. The problem with mine is that I already have an optical cable running from my home theater to my cable box. I'm obviously pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff. Does anyone know what I can do to get the audio set up properly? Thanks...

you could try an optical switcher.

CRACKINHEDZ.....you advised "try turning off HDMI AUDIO OUTPUT". Would this be on the TV or BLu-ray player? The instructions for the blu-ray player are not very good for someone of my limited knowledge....thank god for this forum.

I should not use the optical input if i am usiing the 5.1 multi ch....right? I really want to use the multi ch. based on your advice for the lossless audio.

thanks in advance.

....im sorry, I have forgotten which player you are using? The HDMI Audio Out is mainly a receiver option, but the player might have one also...again, I forgot what player youre using...catch me back up!

Darn you beat me to it! SAME thing I had to do with my Panasonic Blu-ray player.

**Go to the settings in your blu-ray player and make sure the HDMI audio is set to "OFF"** This will now allow the audio to be output thru multi channel analogs.

Hold the phone. Crackin was onto something with the manual. I found this in the manual.

** Notice the underlined 2 channel is default. Go into your settings and make sure 5.1 is selected, otherwise only the L/R will have sound coming from them.

Cheers

Thanks guys.....changed it on the blu-ray and everything works awesome.....however, I might see if i can use the tv as the center speaker just to see which is best.....any input here? my tv is able to be used as a center speaker, and if the sound is coming from the hdmi it might sound better, not to mention that is 2 speakers as opposed to the smaller center speaker i have.
