Blu-ray Grand Duke

Didn't see a thread for this on search. I occassionally buy direct-to-video stuff that looks like an "old school" film rather than a cheap modern film. This one had some good reviews and looked solid, so I took a chance.
I have to say this is a solid action flick. It is so Die Hard it hurts, even to the point of repeating certain dialog and plot aspects, but if you look past that it has some good action. There's an absolutely brutal fight in a kitchen I very much enjoyed and a fun bike chase. The plot is a little silly but it works alright. There's a great evil woman in it. Stevenson is very physically threatening as always. Don't buy this for Pierce Brosnan though, he's barely in it. Blu-ray looks solid, no obvious issues like Lionsgate stuff sometimes has. The violence is mostly practical which is nice, though there are some iffy CG explosions. |
