I haven't heard or seen anything about any of the Alien movies, but assured it will come soon enough, FOX knows this is a big one.

One of my all time favs. Very unlikely we'll see it this year. Probably 2008 at the earliest.

The DTheater of Alien is pretty darn good.

To me the issue is not box or not, it is Director's Cut or not. Aliens is SO much better as Cameron intended.

We've supposedly got an "Aliens vs. Predator" coming out in theaters at the end of the year (what, had they forgot to mention it?), so it's a pretty safe guess that we'll see one or the other primed for Blu, plus a repromotion of the existing combo.

I love the Alien Quadrilogy dvd set. I have it and have seen it numerous times. Now if they could just remaster that in high definition and not change a thing about any of the 9 disc worth of movies, then I'd be in Alien heaven.

All movies are transferred in HD and have been for the last 10 years

All the movies in the quadrilogy received new transfers at the time, and Alien was reissued theatrically. There's no need to worry about it

Aliens will be major grain because it was shot on the cheap, in low light on those bad 80s stocks

I loved that title and Fox presented it with loving care on D-VHS. It was 1080i with a DTS (1.5 mb/s I think) track and the Director's Cut.

Also, the HD transfer used included some digital restoration to clean and repair over 10,000 frames of the movie. It was truly the high water mark for D-Theater.

I hated to sell my copy, but I disposed of the whole thing when I knew that Blu-ray was coming. I think someone on eBay bid $110 for it, and it only cost me ~$25. One of the few times I have made money in this expensive hobby!

Let's hope that Fox does as good a job on the Blu-ray. (I, Robot was also quite good as I recall.)

Not Aliens, but Alien. Here's the statement and link for you lazy bastards:

"This will stay in rumor territory for months, but we have it on good authority that Ridley Scott’s Alien will be released on Blu-ray Disc sometime in the summer of 2008. Put guns to our heads and we’ll deny any knowledge, but hidden in the shadows we’d confirm that it’s coming. We’ll keep you updated."

The Alien vs Predator 2 trailer just leaked out on Youtube (footage from a convention judging by the cheers at the end). I wouldn't be surprised to see all new versions of both series around release time.

Aliens on dvd is quite grainy. Still it looks good. It will only get better in hd despite how the film was shot. First in line for it at local store.

Well, even though it hasn't been officially announced yet, it doesn't hurt to dream does it?

I, Robot was a stunning thing. It came out of nowhere. It seemed D-Theater was dead. And then Fox dropped this one last jewel.

It is without a doubt one the top five reference encodings on the format. And it was under 21GB total (about 23Mbps MPEG-2 CBR).

It's a shame so few people actually saw D-Theater. Instead, they listen to propoganda and the ramblings of people who don't know what they are talking about.

It's why I got so angry at Joe Kane last summer when he blamed the MPEG-2 for the early Blu-ray problems. He was an expert of D-Theater having put out 720p and 1080i versions of DVE on D-Theater.

People that sell their intellectual honesty are beneath contempt.

I like the first two Alien films. The rest don't even exist, as far as I am concerned.
