YES!!!
I DESPERATELY want BOTH of these movies. I've been eyeing THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK DVD for weeks. And everyday at look at that DVD at the video store and think, "What are the chances...?" Fortunately, I mustered the will power to wait. I have a friend who thinks THE SPACE CHILDREN is the greatest movie every made (OK, he's a bit odd). I hesitate to tell him about the Blu-ray because he may have a heart attack. Last edited by Dex Robinson; 03-29-2012 at 03:23 AM. Reason: Bad Spelling induced by excitement |

for those of you who haven't heard, Olive has just acquired the rights to a ton of Republic film titles including High Noon, Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, Letter From An Unknown Woman, Force of Evil, Indiscreet, Operation Petticoat, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and many others!!
these Republic films had been under the control of Lionsgate until the recent acquisition by Olive. Whether or not the rights were obtained through Lionsgate or Paramount is unclear, but it sounds like great news, and may bode well for upcoming blu-ray releases of some amazing films that have languished on terrible dvd releases for over a decade. a partial list-- [Show spoiler] . I've been DYING to see again that rare William Castle flick.A mix of sci-fi & mystery, very ahead of its time. And an amibtious project for Castle. It's a buy for me.

Project X is a weird, but interesting William Castle film. I am a huge William Castle fan, and I have been so annoyed with the non-release of his not-so-popular films. This one includes special effects by Hanna-Barbera as well. In fact, the animation they created was used later on Johnny Quest. It's also a very colorful film, and definitely got that 1960s sci-fi feel to it. Harold Gould is great in it and Christopher George is fun to watch!

Tell me, how is it a rip-off of the Day the Earth Stood Still ? This move has nothing to do with a man coming from outer space warning humans of war

All three of these arrived from Import CDs today - thank God for them, otherwise I'd be grumbling about paying $20 for Olive's bare-bones discs on Amazon instead of happily pre-ordering virtually everything they're putting out at a much more acceptable $16 price point!

I bought this after seeing a reference in the special features for Gorgo -- same director, Eugene Lourie. Watched it last night and have to say it's a total ripoff of Iron Giant.
The main titles may be the most striking part of the film. They rise up out of the water next to the U.N. building and are reflected. There's also a model shot of the father's mansion about 22 minutes in that's worth watching more than once. There's even a miniature person moving (actually, just sliding) in one of the windows. Very convincing, which is why it's strange the later shots of the same model look awful, like 4th-gen dupes. The story's just OK, the runtime is nicely short but there's not a lot of excitement until the end. They had a concept and couldn't develop much action around it. There's a flub that is so obvious it breaks the tension during the climax. [Show spoiler] In case you're wondering where the dad is from, he's the bad guy in "Saboteur." The kid is from William Castle's "13 Ghosts" and, sarcastically, "Iron Giant," "Lost in Space," "Tetsujin 28," etc. There are some cringe-worthy scenes were the kid has to grope around in his uncle's pockets to find a present. More than once, it's a regular thing with them. Then the same thing happens with the giant. The uncle's a creep, BTW. He tries to be sorta good early on, but [Show spoiler] .

I don't know how to tell you this, but Iron Giant was released forty years after The Colossus of New York. If anybody ripped anything off, it was Brad Bird and the other writers of Iron Giant.
