Default Fantomas (1960's Collection) - April 30, 2019

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NBDQXFZ...566911&sr=1-49

Quote:
Pierre Souvestre’s Fantômas was originally adapted for the screen by legendary filmmaker Louis Feuillade (Les vampires) in 1913. André Hunebelle (OSS 117: Mission for a Killer) introduced a revamped and modernized version of Fantômas to the 1960s OSS 117 and 007 audience. All three films starred the great Jean Marais (Jean Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast) as Fantômas, a criminal mastermind and man of a thousand faces. The three films co-starred Louis de Funès as Le commissaire Juve, Mylène Demongeot as Hélène, Jacques Dynam as L’inspecteur Bertrand and Robert Dalban as Le directeur du journal. The first film, Fantomas (Fantômas), was released in 1964, followed by Fantomas Unleashed (Fantômas se déchaîne) in 1965 and Fantomas vs. Scotland Yard (Fantômas contre Scotland Yard) in 1967. All three films were beautifully shot in ’Scope, the first two in Eastmancolor and the finale in Technicolor.

Special Features:
-Trailers for Fantomas
-Fantomas Unleashed
-Fantomas vs. Scotland Yard
-OSS 117 Is Unleashed
-OSS 117: Panic in Bangkok
-OSS 117: Mission For a Killer
-The Sicilian Clan

Have these actually been announced on the Kino thread yet? They must have licenced this from Gaumont like they did with the OSS 117 movies. I'll definitely be getting these.

I can’t fathom why that would be!

Hopefully the US version of (at least) the first film is included.

The reissues did, but only on the films. I'm guessing Kino won't port the unsubtitled extras as per their OSS 117 set.

Like the OSS-117 films, I believe that these will be in French only, with English subtitles.

I did see a dubbed version of the first FANTOMAS (1964) film at a repertory theater back in 1965. It played with JUDEX and EYES WITHOUT A FACE, and I believe that all three films had been dubbed into English.

All seats were $2.50, a heck of a deal.

If anyone with the movie and a Panaosnic player (UB-420/UB-820/UB-9000) could test the first Fantomas movie it would be greatly appreciated!

The first movie appears to crash. I have two UB-820's and the movie crashes around:
[Show spoiler]The section close to the 1h mark where Fantomas is changing his face into that of Inspector Juve's.

The only way for me to finish the movie was to skip a chapter and back up. Best I could do was lose about a minute and a half.

My disc is completely mint, and I tried cleaning it with Isopropyl alcohol too. Made no difference.

I'm wondering if this is an undiscovered flaw running this release on this generation of Panasonic players, or whether there's a faulty batch from which my disc came from.

Great movie by the way.
