Basically every one of his other projects in development is more interesting but hey, I'm sure he'll deliver a worthwhile movie in the end.

I mean, why not, I’d rather The Rock do this than like, Red Two.

Sounds fun. Not every Scorsese film has to be worthy!

Can't say I had The Rock in a Scorsese movie on my bingo card though.

60’s/70’s set Hawaii crime film directed by Marty Scorsese sounds good to me.

There's not even a script. This won't happen.

Just want to point out for those who didn't read the article that this has yet to even be written, let alone go into production.

Quote:
To be written by Nick Bilton, the film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. It was a bloody battle, the kind of terrain Scorsese covered in both Goodfellas and The Departed. In 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this formidable and charismatic mob boss rises to build the islands’ most powerful criminal empire, waging a brutal war against mainland corporations and rival syndicates while fighting to preserve his ancestral land. It’s based on the untold true story of a man who fought to preserve his homeland through a ruthless quest for absolute power — igniting the last great American mob saga, where the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.
Earlier last year Scorsese said “A Life of Jesus” will likely be his next film, with another Apple project “The Wager” already announced. So unless he puts those on hold and this one moves really fast, I don't think it'll happen anytime soon, at least with him directing it.

Given the people involved and the kind of story, if this movie does move into production I'd expect it to happen a lot faster than The Wager, The Devil in the White City or A Life of Jesus. None of those are remotely as marketable as a mob movie with Leo and The Rock.

Having just finished reading The Wager, I'm not sure it's worth Scorsese's time adapting it. The book is fine and well-written for the most part, but the story is less dramatic than the cover or blurb would suggest and its conclusion is banal.

Well, I was so disappointed in how Rock’s movie career was going way before it was trendy to dunk on it, but it was mostly because I thought he had untapped potential for more dramatic roles. I’m excited for the Safdie movie (The Smashing Machine) coming out this year, and this Scorsese/DiCaprio collab sounds even more intriguing than that.

Regardless if this one comes to fruition anytime soon, this is a good sign that he’s looking to evolve as an actor instead of just making the lowest common denominator stuff.

For what it's worth Variety only mentions that Scorsese and DiCaprio are producing the project. Nothing about them directing/acting. Of course, the Variety article doesn't specifically say that Blunt and Johnson are acting in it either so who knows?

Quote:
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are attached to produce a new film based on an original idea from Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Finally, Marty's big screen Hawaii Five-0 adaptation!

DiCaprio as Steve McGarrett
The Rock as Danno

It's a winner!
