Hi, i was just wondering for those who own either or have seen these two sets, which one is has the better PQ, i been looking for years to get a new tv, and i read all the reviews in the world on both sets, and it seems that the KDS-60A3000 had a better performace, but it is RPTV, i dont have a problem with that, but i went to best buy and was blown away by both sets, althought, the XBR5 had Pirates 3 playing on blu-ray via HDMI and the 60A3000 only had digital cable plugged in, and so it did look better, if anyone can tell me which is better i would greatly appreciate it.

I have the kds60a3000 and I love it will blu ray hooked up it is amazing. Everytime I have some new over I show it off and it astounds. Plus they are going down in price now. Both have alot of the same components inside and same software.

I really think you can't go wrong with either one. Screen size was more important to me than how far back the TV set goes. My 60" A2000 goes back about 20" or so. Far less than my old boxy Phillips RPTV, but not as slim of course as an LCD.
So I guess you have to decide what factor you value more: screen size vs TV size. Price could also be a factor too depending on your situation. I love my 1080p 60" Sony! |

Good decision. Both are great pictures (prolly a understatement), but I think the biggest factor is if you care about space and possible the looks of the tv cabinent. I for one went with the SXRD and love it. Saved lots of green for Blu by not going with LCD.

(or do you have)? i'm looking for a nice black one that hides wires well and i cant decide whether to go for the cabinet or the glass look. what are your opinions? and have any advice about where to look?

Well, I have a 52XBR4 (that I'm actually using as a monitor while I type this lol) but looked at the SXRDs as well and I'll say this, the RPTVs are definitely the better value on a pure price-performance basis.
That said the XBRs are superb TVs in their own right. For pure PQ they aren't quite as good as an SXRD but they're still awesome. I had a Sony RPTV before my XBR and have yet to be disappointed by my XBR in any way and I've used it for standard TV, HDTV, upconverted DVD, PS3, 360, Blu-ray, and even playing Crysis over the PC input. It is one awesome TV. The thinness was another factor for me. A 60" SXRD is still a little too bulky for the space I wanted to put the TV in. But the biggest thing the XBR has over an RPTV is it is one dayum seksah looking TV. Even my non-tech friends love its looks. So to me it comes down to your budget and what's more important to you - inches and absolute PQ or cool looks and thinness. Either way I don't think you'll lose with either TV. |

i am waiting till after the new year to get it, a3000, i saw like i said at best buy, it was phenom, and that wasn't with blu-ray 24fps via HDMI 1.3 or any calibration or personal tweaking, that said, i saw and XBR using the motionflow and, aside from Pirates 3 looking a little like video, the best picture i have seen, so i hope with all the other stuff yet to do to the a3000, it will look like the XBR, but im not worried, also Sony has a stand for the a3000 to answer the previous question, it seems a little plain to me, but who know i may end up with it after all
another quick question, for everyone with an a3000, can you tell me, if you can, how far you sit away from the screen, just curious, thanx |

it depends, it could just be the tv, maybe a connect is not strong, like for example, this may not be the case, but i read on another thread that sometimes if you force the 24p, blurring happens, but since the a3000 accepts 24p, IDK,

is the blur common, on most a3000, IDK, its still a tough call, i still want the a3000, but i also have enough cash for the XBR5, so i can afford both, i been saving for over a year,

im lookin at ur set-up, damn, XBR5, another 46" Sony in ur room, i assume an SXRD projector, 2 PS3's, and fastly approching the century mark on blu-rays, thats like 10-12 grand easy, not counting any speakers, recievers stands seating, and everything else, not gonna lie, thats one kick-ass home theater you have assembled, anyway the XBR5 has a great PQ

Sony just quit making SXRD tv's. If you want an A3000, get it now! Personally, I don't like LCD tv's in general. I prefer plasma as a flat screen technology.
