Default The Prestige won't play on my PS3.

It says there is an error (80029940) when I try to play it. I have had my current setup for 4 months and haven't had a single issue until now. I have all the latest updates and everything.

It is a rental from blockbuster online, but I don't see any scratches or anything. I called my brother in law (he has the BR, with the ps3 and same exact TV) and he didn't have a problem watching it.

What is the deal? I put in Blood Diamond and Blazing Saddles (my own copies) and they are working, so it is just this disc.

I've gotten 1 bad BD from Netflix with no apparent disc aberration--Dracula. Unfortunately you'll have to have them send a replacement so you can't watch it today. Which is sad because that is one effin awesome movie! Especially in blu! I own it.

Could be a bad Disc, you might want to report it and Have Blockbuster send you another one. I have the Prestige and it plays fine on my PS3.

Wait, did you give your brother-in-law the same copy of the disc that you had? Or is he using a different copy and it's working okay?

Check the disc a bit more closely...a quick Google search for that error code reveals some people who were getting it had cracked discs. It might be a small crack, but that could be causing your problems (especially likely since it's a rental).

The Prestige was one of the early additions to my BD library, and I've had no problems with it.

Okay, now that you mention it, I think originally I had thought the Dracula BD I got from Netflix had no scratches or issues, but after inspecting it closely there was a hairline crack in it only about 1 cm in from the edge.

I may have actually gotten the same error code. I don't remember the code, but it was the only time I'd seen an error code at all, if I remember correctly. With Netflix, you report it online in your queue and they immediately send a replacement (before they receive your bad disc). Not sure how Blockbuster works, but your next copy of The Prestige will work fine, not to worry.

A few early copies of The Prestige(great disc btw) had some sort of Blu-ray rot. It could be that or it could be something else.

if it was blu ray rot , you can cleary see the "rot" on the disc , and since the OP did'nt mention see anything like that i imagine its just a cracked/damaged disc.

It was also the best, for a long time. Great movie, amazing picture and sound. Probably the first to REALLY knock my socks off.
