Default A Couple of B|tches

For the new year...

#1 - Yesterday I opened a new copy of "Secret Window" to watch with the wife as we waited for Dick Clark to come on. It had the triple security tape on the case. What is the DEAL!?!?! Even worse, it was that security tape that leaves sticky crap all over the outside of the case and if you're unlucky and a little of it got on the paper part of the jacket, it will tear it. This is completely unacceptable. I purchased a product they've designed to aggravate me and force me to damage on use. This disk, as with most of mine, came from Amazon. 90% of them don't have this issue but some do.

#2 - Advertising. I don't feel I should have to sit through 10 minutes of ads just to get to the movie. Disney seems to be most guilty of this. I realize I can use fast forward / skip forward but why is this crap even there! I'd gladly pay extra just to make sure I get a disk that boots to the damn MOVIE when I put it into the drive. They could create a different set of disks for rentals if they want. I don't have an issue with rentals having ads on them.

I understand this isn't limited to Blu (I had the same problem with DVD) but it's time we start demanding our money's worth. Do these manufacturers think they're bringing more people to our format by creating issues that piss people off?

Lastly, this may not be the time to mount a campaign against this stuff since we're in a war and want to bring more companies in. But this forum and others like it should be used in the future to push for more consumer-friendly packaging. I've seen others suggest we hold Warner to higher standards as to uncompressed audio when they go exclusive. I think we have a loud enough voice here (and through other internet forums) to expand our demands to include more companies and more matters.

In regards to the ads in the beginning. Simply hit the "top-menu" key and you immediately skip them all.

Does that always work? I seem to recall there are times it doesn't. I get a "Function not available" or something. Or am I mistaken?

I don't mind the advertisements because when other people are watching, they get to see everything that is coming out...or is already out and how it looks on Blu...

Hmmm, other than the piracy warnings, you should be able to skip all the ads and commercials, I know I can on the PS3.

I hear you on the sticker thing, VERY annoying, Goof Off works very well to remove it, but I wish they would stop covering these cases with these stickers.

I've been using it the past few days. I wait for the first ad to start then click it. If you do it too early like during the warning screens then it won't

I don't mind the advertisement but I do get annoyed how they package everything together with the stickers. It gets most annoying when you have to pull stickers from each side of the cover and at times it would leave part of the sticker on the cover. I would then use another sticky tape to pull it off or goo gone (which I try to avoid). I also take out the security sticker inside the cover which sometimes will peel off half way which I would have to spend more time to get it completely off.

Probably the average joe would just use a scissor to cut in the middle of the sticky tape and leave it as that. I want my movies looking clean and new.

You know, they make medications to help with these obsessions. Now you've given HDNOW something else to add to his site.

"And users complain that the security stickers mar the cases. With HD-DVD you get the Look and Sound of Perfect, including the case."

If he borrows that, I want my $.

I always receive an "action prohibited" message when I try this.

I agree -- the ads are a nuisance and do not provide an acceptable experience for the customers who buy these discs. I never saw them on Laserdisc -- only on VHS and very few DVD.

not always sometimes you are going to have to skip forward. I agree with you about the ads but nothing can be done about it. The studio alot of money into their releases, and spend too much money for their marketing campaign, because it is a business to them and want to profit from that.
