Default Family-friendly / children's games for PS3?

So I finally gave in and ordered a PS3 from Amazon last night (80gb). It'll go in our home theater setup and be our primary Blu player, with our S300 going to the bedroom TV.

I'm curious if any of you have kids, and if so, what games are good for them? We have 3 little monsters, ages 9 and under, and they really like Harry Potter on Xbox 360, Burnout Revenge and Shrek the Third.

Any suggestions for PS3? Are there mini-games on Sony's online service, a la Xbox Live Arcade?

Thanks in advance!

Here are some fun games:
High Velocity Bowling
PAiN
Toy Cars
All the above are in the Playstation Store, which you can access with the PS3 online network

There are more but try these out, they will love it!

Burnout Paradise is released January 22nd and if you're looking for something just for yourself give Devil May Cry 4 a look on February 5th. There's a demo of Burnout Paradise on the PLAYSTATION Store now and there will be a DMC4 demo very soon.

Thanks to all for the recommendations thus far! I had read a positive review of Ratchet & Clank and think it's probably worth checking out.

PS3 should be here by Thursday... can't wait to try it out!

Cheers,

~MK

Also a mention for the PS3 version of "Ratatouille", whose obstacle-course Pixar scenery looks even better in Blu...

wow, weird... i did the exact same thing you are doing except i bought the 40gig. Put the s300 in the bedroom. You will quickly notice that the PS3 loads the movies almost instantly... no more waiting.

I have a 5 year old and for the family fun games have:

- MX vs. ATV
- DIRT
- Rachet & Clank
- Sports games (i have NBA Live)

I have the simpsons, but where he is five, I dont want him swearing at me just yet...

Excellent! That has been my biggest gripe with the S300 is the abhorrent load times. Even turning on the player takes 90+ seconds from power-on to open-tray, so I've disabled the automatic power-off and just keep it on 24/7.

Agreed. Ours are 9, 3 and 1, and all so very impressionable. "Eat my shorts, dad," isn't a phrase I want them repeating. If I can stave off rebellion for just a little... bit... longer...

Also, thanks to Manmangler, too, for all the suggestions!

My 5 yr old son loves Star Wars Lego, we partner up!!

I also picked up SOnic the hedgehog for $20 at Target right before xmas.

He also likes to dabble with Warhawk, but I probably wouldn't recommend it for kids, he just likes playing what Daddy plays with.

Why do I get the distinct impression that the amount of fun had with this game increases in proportion with the amount of alcohol consumed?

I guess the same could be true of most games, tho. Nothing is more entertaining as the events that follow when a tipsy friend grabs a game controller and utters the words, "Stand aside and let the master go to work."

I will also add for those interested that my 5 year old can play and compete in all those games i mentioned... So it isn't like watching him figure out a final fantasy game or something..
