If they have online racing, being able to take people down online will be sweet as hell.

the thing is, they have to code for the 360 to the lowest common denominator. this means assuming no hard drive, no hdmi, etc

The 360 can't handle the fast 1080p graphics like it would on the PS3. The new elite series is nothing more then just an upgrade with HDMI output, 120 gb and a smaller chip inside to reduce the heat coming from it. The games are barely making it at times in 720p, I couldn't imagine it 1080p. Gears of War is using atleast 90% of the 360's power where as PS3 is barely using it's power... though Epic did mention they max out the power with that game so it's highly unlikely you're going to see games better then GoW on the 360. The PS3 is endless with it's supercomputer chip & blu-ray disc capacity (uncompress textures and audio).

Why not? It wouldn't be the first time. I did it quite often on Burnout 3 & 4 for the PS2.

I understand. So its more like the GPU & CPU cant HANDLE the 1080p- It's not a matter of they can't do it. A game like Virtua Tennis isn't that demanding- so they have that in 1080p. But Burnout 5- that makes sense.

If you meant 90nm down to 65nm chipset..that isn't happening AFAIK - unless something changed in the last few days.
So your getting a crippled HDMI connector (in comparison to the PS3) and a proprietary 120GB HDD for the 'Elite".

Those are the first screenshots that I have seen for burnout 5. It was mentioned that burnout 5 will not have menus and that you will be able to switch cars at any time, although we have yet to see how that happens. Burnout 5 looks to be a really good game. It's been awhile since burnout as burnout 4 was back in 04 or 05 I think.

I believe NO game on the 360 is 1080p. They all render internally at 720p and then scaled to either 1080i or now 1080p. You're not getting 1080p detail the same way an upscaled DVD player isn't really HD.

NBA Home Court and Virtua Tennis 3 are supposedly both rendered at 1080p on the xbox 360 and the ps3.

This sounds like a dumb question. So this means the regular 360 cannot truely do 1080p? So HDMI is for 7.1 sound and TRUE 1080P? It confuses me when people say the 360 can do 1080p. Someone correct me here. My brain is fried.

1080p only through VGA/RGB cables. I'm not sure if the add-on gives 1080p HD-DVD using VGA/RGB though. Games are at 1080p.

Quite correct but games do not need HDCP protection so using either component or VGA/RGB, you can get 1080p.

Nearly all of the EDI PS3 downloadable games are 1080p too.

From what I understand, Xbox 360 can do simple 1080p games (like Virtua Tennis), but their 10MB (?) buffer and processing power prevents them from having complex situations going on in 1080p. The Xbox 360 should not have 7.1 surround from what's listed in the specs.

Currently the Xbox 360 just upscales to 1080p through VGA and component cables (and soon to be done through HDMI with the Elite).

My favourite part of the Burnout series have always been the crashes. Burnout 3 had an amazing 100 crash scenarios which I spent hours playing. Let's hope that feature comes with the next generation game - Destruction and Carnage is king.
