Thumbs down Want an hour and a half of my life back... (Shoot 'Em Up)

Wow....So I almost blind bought this movie a few days ago..and I'm so glad I waited to get it from Netflix. There are very few movies that I don't like even a bit, and this had to be the worse movie I've seen in a while. I just finished watching Shoot 'Em Up and it's horriffic. Right from the start it's corny, extremely unrealistic scenes, and lame one liners turned me off. But i'm the kind of person that HAS to finish a movie, even if it's bad (or I stay up all night wondering how it ended). From the scene at the park...to the skydiving fight scene...c'mon!? Ugh...I made my fiancee watch it with me and I felt so bad for making her do so. Funny thing about it, I've heard people PRAISE the movie....is there something I'm missing?! By the end of the movie I wanted to shove that carrot up Clive Owen's rear.... Ok i'm done...

It was mean't to be over the top and unrealistic. It was making fun of and using a lot of tongue in cheek references to tons of other action movies. It was a turn your brain off and laugh at the crazy situations and pretty guns. Nothing more.

I'm all for laughing at crazy situations, there's plenty of stupid funny movies that I love. But I didn't get that vibe from the movie. There were plenty of moments that were somewhat serious, and then they'd go to having sex, and killing 20 henchmen while still managing to get the woman to orgasm...heh...I dunno....went from that to watching Training Day right now....now THAT'S a good movie.

heh, different strokes for different folks I guess. Not bashing your movies at all just that your choice of what you enjoy as a good movie proves my point in that we all have diff tastes. I loved Shoot 'em up and despised training day .

This movie is a parody of sorts about action movies. To create such a parody it goes back to one the oldest rivals we know....Bugs Bunny (Clive Owen) and Elmer Fudd (Paul Giamatti). I enjoyed the movie because it was a fun jab at over the top action movies and it is better than all the other recent parody movies by a mile.

OMG.....I saw this movie for the first time yesterday and absolutely loved it! I didn't stop laughing the whole way through. One of the most satisfying purchases on Blu for me ever. Shoot 'em Up is certainly my favorite strictly action movie (for now...) After watching Crank (which was alright), Shoot 'em Up absolutely put it to shame.

Me and you are on the same page my friend. I thought Crank was huge crapfest because in the end it tryed to take itself seriously. I will never understand all the love on this forum for Crank. Shoot Em Up however I loved, it was meant to be ridiculous. I mean come on people have you not realized in the first five minutes that Shoot Em Up is live action BUGS BUNNY. I mean look at it. The main character eats carrots (BUGS) and is pursued by a fat man bent on taking him down (ELMER FUDD). Despite the fact that the fat man has all the advantages, he still manages to eff everything up. Obviously a looney tunes Bugs Bunny plot. I thought it was great. If I remember correctly Owen even utters "What's up Doc?".

I didn't care for it much either. But I didn't like Transformers and absolutely despised No Country for Old Men as well. I've found that the more movies I watch, the pickier and pickier I get. But every now and then, I find a real gem - and that's what makes it worthwhile.

I'm the same way about finishing movies, OP. Once they're started, the MUST be finished. I keep wondering if maybe it had a kick-ass ending that would make up for the dreck it started with.

99 times out of 100 - it doesn't.

I am with you. It was horrific. It is one of the worst movies I have seen in the theaters my whole life. It is cheesy.. but not in a good way. In a very bad way.. in a lazy way. Come on they stay in a tank thing in a museum. The whole thing is just retarded. The only redeeming quality is the way some of the action was shot - people don't get lit up with ketchup packs in the chest from guns anymore like they used to

Honestly I thought the movie was great... Honestly I thought it was going to be another crank/xxx/torque/etc etc movie, but once it got going and I realized it was being over the top and campy at the expense of movies like that, I loved it!!!!
The one liners were the best part, and the fact that they kept dragging it on like all those movies do, one scene after another but made it funny at the same time, made it worth a million...

4.5 stars for me

I'm with you on that. Tarantino needs to realize that dialog doesn't drive his movies anymore.

And I loved Shoot Em' Up, but I knew what to expect going in. If you take it seriously it will be bad but it's exactly what a movie is supposed to to, entertain.

But nobody will ever agree that a specific movie is good, somebody will always not like it, that's the beauty of movies

You expected it to be good and that's why you hated it. I knew it was going to be corny, but it was fun watching it cranked up on my HT!

Meh...I had mixed feelings about it. The three different "stories" was kind of interesting...but I found myself waiting for it to get better, and it never did. I'd give it 3 stars.
