I'm thinking of future proofing my bluray collection and starting to buy the 4K/Bluray/Digital HD version of new releases when available even though I do not currently have a 4K player.
I could upgrade to a 4K player because I do have a 65" Vizio 4K TV but it is not HDR compatible. Would it be worth the upgrade to get the 4K player or should I just buy the discs now and wait until I upgrade my TV to a HDR 4K TV before buying a player? Basically is the HDR a make or break for the quality improvements? |

I didn't get disks until I got the player. We now have a LG 65UJ7700 and today I got the LG UP970 4K player. HDR10 is a bit weaker, but since both of those support Dolby Vision, it's worth it for me. Here's hoping more 4K movies get Dolby Vision as we go. Now, I've got a hankering to watch The Revenant tonight. ![]() |

Geoff has a lot of luck with the Panasonic player's SDR conversion but my experience with the Sony player was that the conversion looked worse than a normal blu-ray. You can't turn off the HDR, only try and fit its round peg into a square hole.
