Default How do you tell type of encode?

Is there anyway once I own a Blu-ray to confirm the type of encoding its using (i.e. MPEG2, AVC, VC-1)? Or its bitrate?

For DVDs there are tools that read the IFO files on the disc and could determine the bitrate while its playing.

I'll admit, I have not yet read my BD player manual or explored the menus much.

Just curious.

Not sure about the standalone units, but with the PS3 all you need to do is press the 'Select' button and it gives you audio codec, video codec, up-to-the-moment bitrate values for each.
