Warner Bros Amadeus (1984)

Nice to see Amadeus has been announced but please give us the Theatrical version! This is one of my all time favourite films. The Director's cut is really bad and changed the whole tone of the film - that isn't the film that won all those Awards and critics praise. It's an injustice to movie history to do this particularly due to blu-ray having that fancy dynamic branching and loads of space on the disc.

Am I alone in preferring the Theatrical?

I am actually glad that this isn't a joint release. The Director's cut is significantly longer than the theatrical, to such a point that seamless branching cannot be applied because of the extensive difference between the two versions. Furthermore, this is a WB release so if they did release both version they would have crammed them both onto one disc and we would have been stuck with a low bit-rate vc-1 encode on both versions, like all other wb discs with two versions of a film.

Put me down for the director's cut. Much richer experience, in my opinion.

The theatrical version simply works better than the longer cut, but I think this was more a matter of what was available. Warner had a HD master already prepared of the director's cut when they released that as a special edition dvd. I do not believe that Warner has a good enough HD master of the theatrical cut to release on Blu-ray at the moment and were too cheap to pay for a new master.

That would make the most sense. And let's quit bashing WB over how they handled their encodes early in the "war". They were trying to support both formats in the most economical way possible. I for one am willing to give them the chance to make things better, and believe that they will, if for no other reason than to be competitive with what else is being done in the industry (thanks Disney!)

Default Both versions please

I'm a big fan of the THEATRICAL CUT. I agree that the DC changes the tone of the movie in a bad way. Dear Warner, follow the Close Encounters and Blade Runner Blu ray formula and release both version. For $35-40 we should get what we pay for!

The other threads weren't created with the sole intention of catering to my needs, and were thus insufficient. This thread is specially made for people who really want to win the favor of some random guy on the internet.

The price at amazon is 26.99 not 29.99

This is a nice set. Besides the movie it includes a digibook, a digital copy and a CD featuring music composed by Mozart.

I'll buy it asap since this is one of my favorite movies ever.

I think I paid 21-22 thru WB with the 25% discount. I received it today. The digital copy disc comes in a separate thing glued to the digibook. I can't even put the disc in the digibook as it won't shut. Rather annoying if you wanted to keep the digital copy disc with digibook.

I'm one of those people who is more than happy with several of my DVD versions of films in my collection. I'm not about to replace all the titles I've bought over the years.

That said - this is one of my very favorite films of all time. This, like Lord of the Rings, I would purchase on any and all formats it comes out on. I will not hesitate for a moment to snatch this up tomorrow.

Default Amadeus for $14.99 at Best Buy?

Someone at DVD Talk posted AMADEUS at $14.99 at Best Buy on sale for next week (Feb. 15-21).

It actually sounds too good to be true! Can anyone confirm this?
