Excitement runs high when the feuding film stars Marina Rudd (Elizabeth Taylor) and Lola Brewster (Kim Novak) arrive in the sleepy English village of St Mary Mead, ready to begin work on a movie about Elizabeth I and Lady Jane Grey. But the experience quickly turns sour when an innocent bystander drops dead at a party after drinking a poisoned cocktail. Everyone assumes the drink was intended for Marina, but local resident Miss Marple (Angela Lansbury) has her doubts and begins to investigate.

Hercule Poirot travels to an exclusive island resort frequented by the rich and famous. When a murder is committed, everyone has an alibi...

All remastered by Studio Canal and out now on Blu-ray.


Only watched Death on the Nile so far, but the image quality was above average I thought.

Wow I imported the Italian box set a few years ago and I thought the picture was pretty good. I love Death on the Nile and Evil Under the Sun. I may have to double dip

Yeah I knew it was I had printed out a few titles that I am planning on getting when they hopefully have the 20% sale next week, but what g12345567 was saying is that the blu ray version of it has no listing on the website. It did have one a couple of days back when I looked it up, but for some reason has gone.

edit. in fact I just checked my cart where I had added all 4 titles and it now says "Sorry, Mirror Crack'd, The is no longer available and needs to be removed".
I hope they put it back up as I am planning to do orders online during the sale for pickup so save running around stores looking for stock...

Can confirm that JB has plenty of The Mirror Crack'd in store as part of the 2 for $20. Since its not listed on-line for some reason it can only be purchased in store.

I'm in no rush to buy so will probably pickup next 20% off sale. As Murder On The Orient Express and Death On The Nile has been shown a few times on tv over the past year. Can't say they have played the other two from memory.

They're carried through nicely to the menu screens as well. So pleasing to see releases that have been produced with an eye to visual style.


One thing I enjoyed, more noticeable when watched as a series, is the way quite a few of the support players appear in more than one film, giving the whole thing the feeling of a repertory company.

And I realised only last night that Jane Birkin, who plays the opportunistic maid Louise Bourget in Death on the Nile and the sun-averse Christine Redfern in Evil Under the Sun, was the singer and (ahem!) erotic moaner on Serge Gainsbourg's song Je t'aime ... mois non plus that was banned in Britain in 1969 and set Mary Whitehouse into a tizz.

Jane Birkin performed a concert in Sydney around 2011 or 2012. She told stories of her life and sang some songs. Regretfully she did not did perform Je t'aime ... mois non plus. Must admit my favourite version of that song has always been the one by Abigail from Number 96 back in the early 1970s.

Now that you mention it, I remember she had a single that caused a stir, but I don't remember what it sounded like.

Speaking of sound, though ... Given that much of Jane Birkin's performing life was in French, I as a bit surprised that her French accent in Death on the Nile seemed a bit shaky. I was wondering if that was going to be part of the plot -- that Louise was a fake -- but it didn't eventuate. (It was a long time since I'd seen the film, so my memory of it was hazy.)

I bought the MotOE and was disappointed as the murky image seems inferior to the Italian release which I already have.
