What sort of UCE tat can they include with a movie like this? A motion lenticular of JFK's head getting blown off? A Hot Wheels model of the blood-spattered Presidential limo?

I'm keeping an eye on the upcoming Fox euro edition, see if it's got new transfer.

Unless this has a new transfer to improve on the mediocre old one (19 mbps, VC-1), you're better off importing this nice steelbook from the UK that is to be released in UK in 3 months by Fox:

It will almost certainly be a new transfer with a much higher bit rate on an AVC codec.

That is, unless you're really into these huge packages and all the physical extras.

I am a fan of the movie, but not a fan of JFK in person. Should I get this set?? Already had the digibook.

Given what you said, it seems pretty obvious that the answer to that question is no. Nearly all of the extra stuff in this new set is about JFK the person, not about JFK the film.

I'll be curious to see how the transfer is. That said, I personally like the look of the digibook better.

Hi,

Just bought the Digibook a couple of months back, and was more-than happy with it. Moreso, as I got it for about £12, excluding postage to the UK from Amazon.com.

This new Collector's Edition, seems a tad overkill. A lot of excess material, both on discs, and in literature, that only an absolute JFK nut would genuinely want.

A much better idea, would have been to have had:
1) A BR with JFK: Theatrical Edition on it
2) A BR with JFK: Director's Cut on it
3) A DVD/BR with all of the extras on them.
4) Possibly a copy of the book, or script, or a poster?

So don't buy it if you think it's overkill.

I'll be interested to hear any feedback about the upcoming JFK Blu-ray. A new transfer would interest me.

I agree. I purchased the DigiBook for $10.89 from WBShop.com. The UK steelbook is pretty nice though, but I predict this film won't look all too much better with a new transfer (if it receives one). Oliver Stone's films are generally quite drab in the visual department anyway.

What's suggesting to you that it will have a new transfer? Pretty much all the UK re-releases in steelbook format have simply used the existing disc, and missed out on any extras discs as well.

Ditto. I haven't got the space for these big tat-filled boxes (like the Titanic or Indy releases), but even if I did, I reckon the novelty value would fade too quickly to make them worth buying.

I'm assuming since he said that Fox is releasing the UK SteelBook, that's he's thinking it may have a different transfer since it's coming from a different studio (Warner handles the U.S. release).
