Default Underworld: The Series - Movie Series Being Developed for TV

Quote:
New UNDERWORLD With Kate Beckinsale Being Developed; TV Series In The Works

Today at New York Comic-Con, IGN interviewed Len Wiseman ("Total Recall") about the future of the Underworld franchise. He said a few things are currently being developed as they hope to expand the universe. He first referenced the spinoff, which was recently announced. That'll feature the Divergent star Theo James. He'll be reprising his role ('David') from Underworld: Awakening. Fans of the series were bummed by that news as it appeared Kate Beckinsale ("Click") was done playing 'Selene' but her husband indicates that isn't the case. Wiseman told IGN, "Another film is being developed with Kate (Beckinsale), possibly as well." Additionally, Wiseman says a television series based on the vampires vs. werewolves franchise is also in the works.

Don't really see how they'd achieve Underworld on a TV budget. Unless it's gonna be done with an overuse of really bad CG.

We have Vamp Diaries featuring both, so why not. I'd be game for an Underworld series. Will add it to my watchlist of The Originals, Vamp Diaries, Teen Wolf, Supernatural, (I'm sensing a trend here...haha).

Yeah but look how cheap Vampire Diaries looks, and how self contained the action is and how few and far apart those sequences are.

I don't think the vamps look bad on Vamp Diaries, but you really don't see a whole lot of werewolf transformations on it. Still, I'd like to see a tv show of Underworld.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, lets not put this on the same low level as Vamp diaries. that show is all but unwatchable. "The Originals" is a bit better, a bit darker but still has a bit too much CW melodrama. Hard to turn a fully R rated movie series into a TV show unless it's showtime or HBO

I think America should just leave the action TV shows to Japan. Tacky and low budget? Undoubtedly, but they push the limits of their budgets for beyond what we think TV is usually capable of. American action shows dwarf the Japan shows in terms of budget but are laughably crappy by comparison. Honestly I'd even go as far to say that some of the Japanese superhero TV shows even give the American blockbuster superhero movies a run for their money at times, if you can accept the production quality for what it is.

Maybe FX as well. This is the kind of series that needs to be on cable to thrive.

Hoping for the best from this though. This could have potential. It just needs the right network home.

STARZ would be a good fit. They really need an action series to replace Spartacus. Cinemax would be another good one. Would hate to see those two stations get too entrenched in melodramas.

Either you'll get sh**ty looking wolves with alot of screentime or great looking wolves, but with very short screentime.

This = BAD IDEA.

Default Underworld TV Series Coming by Len Wiseman

Underworld Series is coming to TV. Love the movies, but without Seline how could this be as good?

Quote:
‘Underworld’: Len Wiseman Spearheading TV Series Adaptation Of Movie Franchise

EXCLUSIVE: Len Wiseman and his production company Sketch Films are moving forward with the long-gestating Underworld TV series based on the popular action horror movie franchise, which is targeting the premium cable/digital space.

“The series will be a pretty big departure from the films,” Wiseman said. “I don’t want to say it’s more adult, but it’s definitely less comic book in its tone and character.”

Wiseman has been involved in all five movies in the Underworld franchise, which he helped launch — he co-wrote and directed the first two and produced the remaining three. Wiseman will executive produce the potential TV series via his Sketch Films with Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid. (Lakeshore produced the Underworld movies, with the company’s Rosenberg and Lucchesi serving as producers on all of them). The TV division of Sony, whose Screen Gems unit distributed the features, also is involved in the project.

The Underworld franchise, which kicked off with the eponymous movie in 2003, centers on Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a vampire who works as a Death Dealer. She started off by killing the lycans who allegedly slaughtered her family. The modestly budgeted films have grossed collectively more than half a billion dollars at the boxoffice.

The Underworld series has been carved out of Wiseman’s overall deal at 20th Century Fox Television. As part of that pact, Wiseman serves as an executive producer on the studio’s new Marvel Fox drama series The Gifted after directing the key second episode of the series. He has the distinction of having all pilots he has directed go to series, Hawaii Five-0, Sleepy Hollow, which he also co-created, Lucifer and A.P.B. He also served as an executive producer on the last three series.

In features, Wiseman, who helmed Live Free or Die Hard, is set to direct the next installment in the Die Hard franchise. The plot has been under wraps, but is described as a prequel/sequel that will involve John McClane in both present day and 1970’s New York. Bruce Willis will be returning to play the iconic character, as casting now begins for the actor who will portrayMcClane when he was a NYC beat cop.

“The right casting for this role is crucial,” said Wiseman. “Those bare feet have some very big shoes to fill.”

I would give it a shot if it is on a normal channel. Not paying for another streaming service.

I feel like the character I most want to see is Lucian, still being played by Michael Sheen.

Dont forget Victor played by Bill Nighy. But it would be hard to replace him with other actor.

Now for a front face i think they have plenty options.

I mean, I'll watch it because I like the franchise... but if they're going to do a tv series they need to distance it from the movie by setting it in the same world but not connected... I don't want to see a bunch of recast characters. If they want to use characters from the movies, they should be special guest stars and not need to be main characters because they likely won't get to keep them around.
