Default Lake House Sales

One thing a few folks in the industry I deal with and I had been looking forwrd to was Warner's release of the Lake House. This is the first dual-format release at the same time so you could see sales properly. While providing no numbers, the videoscan material indicates that the HD DVD release sold 2.5 times the Blu-ray release. This was not surprising to anyone since there's both the poor reviews the Samsung had gotten and the difference in price. The other piece that was brought in was that the combined sales of BD/HD DVD were 0.1% of the DVD. Both formats are looking to be barely laserdisc niche for some time to come.

I'm guessing they sold 5 HD-DVD titles, 2 Blu Ray titles and 7,000 DVD titles.

Interesting numbers though, I wonder what the ratio will be by the end of Q1 2007.

Yeah 2.5 is not quite the 11:1 ratio that seems to be expounded regularly in that 'other forum'

I think things are gonna change real soon... By reading these posts it appears alot of people were holding off on different players... Some have decided they want the Panny and others have decided the Samsung is their best choice.... It will be interesting to compare that 2.5% to Mission Impossible 3 at the end of this month. My guess is those numbers will narrow, untill the PS3.

By the end of next month there should be a complete flip with the BD and HD DVD sales.

Great post Chris! Thanks for the info.

If only the damn thing wasn't a flipper on HD DVD, it would be the perfect comparison. The MI3 sales numbers should be pretty telling tho.
