I might sell my external burner and put it towards a new mac pro though....decisions decisions... and by the way, Ive been on the macrumors forums all day debunking some dissappointed hd-dvd fans. some of the shit they say just gets my blood going, and I have been posting non stop schooling them on blu-ray. |

I agree its especially significant because Apple knows what they're doing - they are not taking this step lightly, and as with their other areas of design leadership they will significantly take the industry to Blu-Ray.

Have to mostly agree with you. Apple is the most innovative company in the world. When they finally build a product with a Blu-ray player in it, it will say something to many other tech companies. We still have to wait and see what happens at MacWorld.

It would be nice if they came out with an Apple TV with a Blu-ray drive in it. Not likely as there is no optical drive in them now anyway, but still would be nice. I would definitely consider replacing my PS3 as my Blu-ray player if they did that.

an ultraportable laptop with an optional external optical drive. a refresh to the AppleTV to include a TV tuner, blu-ray, TVR, and other features of the sort. perhaps we will see an external blu-ray drive that can be used with the ultraportable and appletv. thats a stretch, but it fits with the current rumors. |

I doubt they will make a combo player. That would be WAY to pricey! It would add $1k on the price! The only real solution here is a BD burner. I just want to know WHICH computers will support BD. I want to get whatever has it as long as it isn't the tower... I can't afford that right now.

I always thought it was obvious that Apple would start including Blu-Ray drivers (readers, at the very least) with their new lineup. They are on the Blu-Ray consortium, and they have close ties with Disney.
That being said, I doubt this will show up on the MacBook, and that's a bummer because that would push me over the edge to finally get one for my wife (she thinks they are neat). MacBrook Pro and the desktops only, I'm afraid (just my speculation). |

"If you want to watch high-definition movies on your notebook, American Technology Research's Shaw Wu thinks you'll have a better idea of Apple's HD video plans following Macworld. Wu put out a research note Thursday predicting that Apple will confirm its support for Blu-ray drives, and could use the occasion to announce plans to ship notebooks with new optical drives. Apple is already a member of the Blu-Ray Disc Association, so this isn't much of a stretch, although it has held off releasing Blu-ray-equipped products to this point." |
