I have a Mac, and I would like a BD Drive so I can watch my blu rays away from home. Any suggestions?

I just purchased a 24'' Imac 3.06 ghz that just came out, and talked to the guys that worked at Apple. There is a external blu-ray drive they told me about, and I think I've heard of it before. The support isn't supposedly good for it, because Apple has yet to imbrace blu-ray drives on their computers. Said it would probably be a year before they fully supported it in their machines. Which isn't surprising given Apple's lack of annoucements on blu-ray period.

Not really. Nothing that has good support. With the drm issues and firmware ordeals on players...you'd need constant support/updates...especially with the newer movies. You could use boot camp w/ windows and run it that way, but I don't see it as that feasible. I'd check the mac forums for more on this....search the forums on this also. There has been numerous discussions on this in the past....not sure if any has found a good working situation.

Not to hate on the macs - I speak BSD and love the OSX gui - but hardware support has never been their forte'.
Now what would be real interesting would be to bootcamp the mac or parallels it into Win XP Pro - and try the Blu-Ray that way..... |

I dont have a mac yet, but it is on the way. and I am going to buy the LG blu-ray burner (Whatever model the internal burner is) and get a SATA to USB enclosure and make it a USB (possibly even firewire) and connect to the mac. I dont see why it wouldn't work. As for playing movies on my computer, I could care less. 17" monitor, or a 46" TV there is no question as to where im watching movies. But I do want to be able to burn them, to back up my current collection and to back-up just about everything else on my computer.
