Default will it work?

I was thinking about buying my parents an HD DVD or Blu-ray player for X-Mas. The problem is that they have a 42" Plasma Panasonic ED TV, not a High Def TV. If I'm not mistaken, ED TV's only have a 480p or 720p resolution correct? Will they still get a great picture with either one of these players?...or am I just better off going with a good upconversion player? We are also talking about $100 vs $500-1000 here (not that they're not worth it, lol).

Default Just get a upconvering DVD

Most ED sets will display a picture from a 1080i or 720p source, however they will down convert the image to 480p. Save some $ and get a upconverting dvd player or spend extra cash and get them a plasma that can display 1080i or 720p. After all they are the reason you are here.
