1) Will rdjam finally shut up for good?
2) Is the other side still predicting Disney and/or Fox going neutral? 3) How does Rob Enderle NOT commit suicide every day, when he realizes he is ALWAYS WRONG? 4) Will Warner start using AVC? 5) Will Paramount and Universal trip over each other trying to be the next studio to go Blu? 6) Looking back on the debates, on this forum, when someone wanted to go neutral and buy a cheap hd-dvd player in addition to a Blu player; NOW do you begin to understand why people like me said you were wasting your money? I don't think the other side can predict any studio going neutral at this point. It would be foolish for them to do so. Warner going Blu is the final exclamation point and the very end of this ridiculous format war.
I wouldn't be surprised if at this very moment Universal and Paramount/Dreamworks are in an emergency meeting planning their exit strategy. Neither one wants to be left holding the last red box. I don't think Rob Enderle cares one way or the other if he's wrong. Looking at his track record it seems he's made a comfortable career at being disproven time and time again. There will always be someone to listen to his constant rhetoric. |

2) Yes, they are clinging to any hope no matter how remote, I guess they did not hear about Disney expanding its blu-ray tour and Fox wanting some form of disc security and region encoding. 3) He maintains he was not wrong, movie downloads are the way of the future is now his stance, what a good little MS paid shill. 4) They might, but the important thing is they can use encodes that will take advantage of blu-ray's capacity. 5) It will probably be easier for Universal, since they are not under contract, but Paramount has got to be thinking about clauses in their contract or the damages they would incur for breach of contract. 6) I was right there along side you, agreeing that going neutral was a waste of money. But some would have valued the benefit of having all movies in HD over the eventual defeat of one of the formats, each person has their own "utility function". I just considered HD-DVD to be inferior and could wait it out until they went Blu. Those people on the HD-DVD side who are upset have to realize it is part of the risk if you are going to get into a format war. One or both sides will lose, if you can't take the hit financially then stay out of it. Last edited by cartier; 01-05-2008 at 05:16 PM. |

2. Most of them, probably not. But the most ardent, fomaing at the mouth types are probably expecting Disney and Fox to announce HD DVD exclusivitiy at CES... ![]() 3. See my answer to number 1. 4. The codec isn't so important (Disney has shown us that excellent results can be achieved with VC-1), provided the bitrate is high enough. So the real question is, when will Warner take advantage of Blu-ray's superior bandwidth and storage space? (Though I agree, switching to AVC would be a neat way to say "up yours" to M$!) 5. Probably doing that right now (Universal more so, I'd say, unless Para*****'s contract has a get out clause that is covered by Warner's move). 6. I agree with you: people who bought into both formats recently were fools. |

2 - I think most of the other side got a wake up call, but there are still some TOOLS out there that think Disney is going neutral. ![]() 3 - Because he get paid enough money from M$ not to. ![]() 4 - I REALLY, REALLY hope so! 5 - Hell yeah, they will both probably try to make a huge effort to get on the Blu boat as soon as possibly CES. 6 - I've always felt the neutral path was just a waste. 100% man. ![]() |

I forgot to add one more question: 7) Will Toshiba still try to push TL-51? |

2.) No one on the other side is predicting any Blu studios going neutral now. If such deals were in place with Disney, you can bet they have been canceled. The tone instead is either denial, pure Sony hated, slamming the PS3's gaming titles, or flat out concession speeches. 3.) He's one voice against many. The news media has picked it up, and is mainstream. Even the most devote HD-DVD people say that digital download will fail. Enderle is an idiot, and he always will be one. 4.) No, I think they will continue using VC-1. Titles not going to HD-DVD will be BD optimized, but not AVC. I would expect high VC-1 bitrate encodes and lossless audio for non HD-DVD titles. High bitrate VC-1 does look great so that's ok. Codec wasn't the issue, the bit rate used for the codec was. 5.) I wouldn't be surprised. Rumors are buzzing that Paramount is angry that they are locked into a contract with the losing side and are trying to get out of it right now. Universal has remained strangely silent, but I bet there have been a few phone calls to the BDA with intentions to release on Blu. weinstien is rumored to be wanting more money to go Blu now, but it's a 100% certainty that they will. 6.) No, not at all. Most are claiming now that they were always purple. Those that just bought an HD-DVD player are returning it for Blu. Others not in that position are ebaying it. The most devote simply say they will pass up Blu forever. I think I predicted this reaction a long time ago. 7.) TL51 died with HD-DVD. Most concede that it was either sales figures or a hefty sum of money -- not disc space that won the war. Only Deadmeat is implying the new xbox will use TL51 for the next gen console. Most are laughing him off. |
